With its big screen debut this weekend, Oz The Great and Powerful looks to break the box office slump and bring back some energy to theaters. Walt Disney Pictures has graciously released two spoiler-free clips from the film that are completely polar opposite in content. Check out squabbling witches and bubble transportation after the jump.
If you’re on the fence to see Oz The Great and Powerful, like some people, you may want to check out these two clips. They don’t give away anything, and they give you a good idea of what to expect beyond the trailers. Oz is truly the first big spectacle movie of the year and the opening title sequence alone is worth the extra cost for 3D. Aside from the CGI overload, Oz has a lot of great character moments and is a very enjoyable film for anyone.
The first clip, “Argument Over Oz,” is a short conversation between the skeptical Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and the naive Theodora (Mila Kunis). The witch sisters – witchsters? – are debating whether or not Oscar “Oz” Diggs (James Franco) is the true wizard one prophecy foretold. A very grounded moment of the film, this scene is a snippet of dialogue that paves the way to a key moment between the sisters later in the film. As I said, this scene is not a spoiler, take a look:
Next is a more playful scene, “Travel by Bubble.” I won’t go into detail as to how this situation is set-up, but this clip is visually stunning and a terrific look at the land of Oz. China Doll (Joey King) looks absolutely photorealistic, but this scene is overrun by massive amounts of CGI. Everything is quite polished, but Glinda (Michelle Williams) and Oz sometimes look a bit too animated in their bubbles. Again, this is very spoiler-free and just one of the many wondrous moments Oz The Great and Powerful has.
Hope you enjoyed the clips, anything more and you’d ruin the adventure in seeing the movie. Now go see this film!
Oz The Great and Powerful is in theaters now as of March 8, 2013.
