Fans have been starving for their first glimpse of the long awaited sequel to last year’s The Hunger Games. And now the official teaser trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Firehas been released. Those watching the MTV Movie Awards got a first look at the much anticipated return of Katniss Everdeen. Check out the official teaser trailer along with 53 screenshots after the break.
Your favorite tributes, Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) and Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) return in this year’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Now that they have
won survived, audiences will be treated to the Victor’s Tour and we’ll see what life is like for Panem’s finest after the Hunger Games. How will our tributes adjust after surviving such an ordeal? How will the Capitol respond?
Not everyone seems to be satisfied with the outcome. It would appear President Snow (Donald Sutherland) is quite irritated by the results and is scheming with Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman), the newest Head Gamemaker, to rid the world of these tributes and the symbol they represent.
Things are looking pretty dark, and I love it. I don’t think The Hunger Games captures the right tone that should have been present in the first film. It focuses too much on the force loved plot and silly build up and not enough on the emotional weight put on Katniss or the crazy situation that the games present. The conversation between Snow and Heavensbee intrigues me and I am curious to see what this may have to do with the Quarter Quell since I haven’t read the books yet.

Speaking of the Quarter Quell, the trailer doesn’t even touch on the subject, but the official synopsis hints at it:
Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
We’ve seen previous promo images, but I’m glad to see this trailer because it sparks a wonderful feeling of joy that the images couldn’t. The only thing that worries me about the film is that the color seems very flushed out of certain scenes, which could be an artistic choice by the director depending on which District they are in?
Along with Lawrence, Hutcherson, Sutherland, and Hoffman, Catching Fire also stars Woody Harrelson, Jena Malone, Liam Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Stanley Tucci, Lenny Kravitz, and Toby Jones.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is directed by Francis Larence (I Am Legend; Constantine; Water for Elephants) and will be released in North American theaters November 22, 2013.
