Walt Disney Studios Announces 2014 Movie Release Schedule

Walt Disney Pictures has just unveiled its behemoth of a movie slate for 2014. From titles from Captain America: The Winter Soldier to Into the Woods to Maleficent, there are a lot of big films to look forward to next year.

Find out what the House of Mouse has in store for 2014 after the jump.

After a riveting time at the D23 Expo this past year, I am pretty excited for some of the releases Disney has in store for us. Although we won’t be getting Tomorrowland or the live-action Cinderella until 2015, there are still many great films to see in 2014.

  • February 28, 2014 – The Wind Rises
  • March 14, 2014 – Need for Speed
  • March 21, 2014 – Muppets Most Wanted
  • April 4, 2014 – Captain America: The Winter Soldier
  • April 18, 2014 – Bears
  • May 16, 2014 – Million Dollar Arm
  • May 30, 2014 – Maleficent
  • July 18, 2014 – Planes Fire & Rescue
  • August 1, 2014 – Guardians of the Galaxy
  • August 8, 2014 – The Hundred-Foot Journey
  • October 10, 2014 – Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
  • November 7, 2014 – Big Hero 6
  • November 21, 2014 – McFarland
  • December 25, 2014 – Into the Woods

I’m very happy to see The Wind Rises starts us off. I’ve been really looking forward to seeing Hayao Miyazaki’s supposed last film. I haven’t heard too much about The Hundred-Foot Journey or McFarland.

What really intrigues me, beyond the obvious Marvel Studios releases is Big Hero 6 and Into the Woods. Big Hero 6 because it will be Walt Disney Animation Studios’ first crack at a Marvel Comics adaptation. After Tangled, Frozen, and Wreck-It Ralph, the Disney Animation team have been on a roll.

And then Into the Woods has such a stellar cast that you just can’t believe that it could go wrong. Johnny Depp, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, Meryl Streep, and Chris Pine lead the pack of actors spearheading Rob Marshall’s (1999’s Annie; Chicago) newest musical.

It’s a pretty well paced schedule and a surprise to see them releasing a marvel film a month earlier this year in April. Perhaps they are trying to test out new waters to give moviegoers less movie fatigue during the summer. I’m not sure I can wait until August for Guardians of the Galaxy though. The footage they showed at D23/SDCC was fantastic.

Which movies are you most excited for this year?
