Universal has released the second, full-length trailer for The Purge: Anarchy, in theaters June 20. Taking the chaos out into the streets, the sequel to one of the most talked about films of last year is shaping up quite nicely. Learn more about the characters and the terror they must have to endure to survive The Purge after the jump.
More expansive in terms of story reveals compared to the first teaser, this new trailer focuses on the intertwining paths of three different pairs of people. I am definitely on board with the idea of of removing the home invasion cliché and heading toward a bigger scope. Let’s just hope these characters are not as intolerable as the family in the first Purge – my review.
The first pair of “innocents” we see are arguing over the man in the relationships right to take revenge on those who have taken away someone he cared about. He has a shiny armored car and a hefty supply of weaponry. The second pairing is the couple we saw in the first trailer who stumble onto some car troubles. And then finally there seems to be a sister duo whose apartment gets attacked and are hauled off into the streets. Luckily armored car guy is there to save the day, against his better judgement.
As these three pairs of people come together to survive the night I hope that they each have equal wait in telling a more compelling story than The Purge. What the first film lacked was a bigger picture with the world building and how others were affected other than this one suburb. I have a lot of high hopes that this will improve every aspect of this high concept world and bring more fun within the disorder and mayhem.
There is still no detail plot synopsis, so here is the condensed version courtesy of IMDb.com:
A young couple works to survive on the streets after their car breaks down right as the annual purge commences.
I think we are also beginning to see a trend in horror movies that highlight the use of masks that are not frightening, but come across very disturbing, much like You’re next.
The Purge: Anarchy hits theaters this summer on July 18.
