Welcome to The Streaming Report for April 3, 2014, a weekly feature that suggests newly uploaded movies to Netflix Watch Instant. After the long week on the grind you deserve a relaxing staycation with a bowl of popcorn, a bucket of ice cream, and only your Netflix queue to judge you. This past week, Netflix has been kind enough to supply us with Mad Men Season 6, The Fifth Element, Titanic, Mean Girls, and more which you’ll find after the break.
Mad Men (Season 6) (Matthew Weiner) Season 6 takes place between December 1967 and November 1968, with characters struggling to adjust to the changing office dynamics based on the ongoing counterculture movement around them. Starring Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, January Jones, John Slattery, and Christina Hendricks
For those looking to catch up in order to check out the first part of the final season of Mad Men premiering on Sunday, April 13 on AMC, your time is nigh. This is a wonderful, game changing season. (Watch it now)
Adventure Time (Season 2) (Pendleton Ward) A human boy named Finn and his best friend Jake, a magical, talking dog, set out on their adventures in the magical Land of Ooo. Starring Jeremy Shada, John DiMaggio, Hynden Walch, and Tom Kenny
I haven’t seen Adventure Time yet – yes, it disgusts me too – but this upload of the second season gives me all the more incentive to check it out. (Watch it now)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Steven Spielberg) After an encounter with UFOs, a line worker feels undeniably drawn to an isolated area in the wilderness where something spectacular is about to happen. Starring Richard Dreyfuss, François Truffaut, and Teri Garr
If you haven’t seen this classic Spielbergian film than it is high times you get on it! One of the greatest sci-fi classics of all time. (Watch it now)
Rocky I-V (John G. Avildsen/Sylvester Stallone) Rocky Balboa, a small-time boxer gets a supremely rare chance to fight the heavy-weight champion, Apollo Creed, in a bout in which he strives to go the distance for his self-respect. Starring Sylvester Stallone, Talia Shire, and Burt Young
And speaking of classics, all FIVE Rocky movies are now available so you don’t have to watch them on AMC with all of the commercials. (Watch Rocky Now)
Coneheads (Steve Barron) Aliens with conical crania come to Earth to observe human life. Starring Dan Aykroyd, Jane Curtin, and Robert Knott
Coneheads is one of the most bizarre SNL skit adaptation movies that works on too many levels. Here is a classic quote from the movie: “If, for some reason your life functions ceased, my most precious one, I would collapse, I would draw the shades and I would live in the dark. I would never get out of my slar pad or clean myself. My fluids would coagulate, my cone would shrivel, and I would die, miserable and lonely. The stench would be great.” (Watch it now)
The Fifth Element (Luc Besson) In the colorful future, a cab driver unwittingly becomes the central figure in the search for a legendary cosmic weapon to keep Evil and Mr Zorg at bay. Starring Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, and Gary Oldman
The GIF says it all. (Watch it now)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Ang Lee) Two warriors in pursuit of a stolen sword and a notorious fugitive are led to an impetuous, physically skilled, adolescent nobleman’s daughter, who is at a crossroads in her life. Starring Yun-Fat Chow, Michelle Yeoh, and Ziyi Zhang
Oscar winner for Best Foreign Film, CT, HD is a beautifully spectacular and monumental piece of cinema. Everything about this movie is perfect. (Watch it now)
And one not to watch:
The Big Wedding (Justin Zackham) A long-divorced couple fakes being married as their family unites for a wedding. Starring Robert De Niro, Katherine Heigl, Diane Keaton, Amanda Seyfried, Topher Grace, Susan Sarandon, Robin Williams, and Ben Barnes
This movie is a pile of crap. It devalues everything these actors have ever done; besides Katherine Heigl because her career is just in shambles to begin with.
