‘Jem and the Holograms’ Movie Cast and Teaser Poster Revealed

'Jem and the Holograms' Movie Cast and Poster Revealed

It’s time to bust out your ’80s glam rock attire because Jem and the Holograms is coming to the big screen. Director Jon M. Chu tweeted the announcement today, which revealed the first look, teaser poster along with the casting announcement. Check out who will play the beloved Jem and the Holograms after the break.

From toys to cartoons, Jem and the Holograms made a huge splash in 1980’s pop culture. And now it is time to shine 30 years later. Starring as Jem is Aubrey Peeples (Nashville; Sharknado); Stefanie Scott (A.N.T. Farm) as Jem’s sister Kimber, Aurora Perrineau (Pretty Little Liars) as Shana; and Hayley Kiyoko (The Fosters) as Aja. The cast was so excited for the announcement that they took an Instagram picture together:

Jon M. Chu is best known for his visual filmmaking talent behind such gems as Step Up: Revolution, Step Up 2: The Streets, Justin Beiber: Never Say Never, and most recently the atrocious G.I. Joe: Retaliation. As this will most likely be a concert-like movie, Jem should be smooth sailing for the man, but can he create a better character driven story this time around?

The script was written by Ryan Landels (The LXD: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers), and according to The Hollywood Reporter, Jem and the Holograms “centers on an orphaned teenage girl who becomes an online recording sensation. She and her sisters embark on a music-driven scavenger hunt — one that sends them on an adventure across Los Angeles in an attempt to unlock a final message left by her father.”

Producers will have their work cut out for them as they need to update this ’80s classic to a modern era while keeping the core values of the original show intact. Hopefully, Chu will be able to appeal to both the original fans of the show, those now in their 20’s and 30’s, and the current social media hooked teen generation.
