It has been confirmed by Variety and Latino Review that Josh Brolin has been officially cast as Thanos for Marvel Studios’ upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy. For the casual fans or Marvel Cinematic Universe fans only, Thanos is that purple dude with the mean chin in the mid-credit scene of The Avengers. Check out the full news after the break.
Although filming has been completed for Guardians of the Galaxy, it would appear some extra special voice acting will take place by Josh Brolin before the August release of the film. Thanos appeared to be comprised of CG, like the Hulk, at the end of The Avengers, but it was never confirmed if that was just a one time deal or if he would appear CG for future iterations of the character.
Well it would appear so, but did Brolin do any motion capture for the role like Mark Ruffalo did for the Hulk? Maybe this is only a voice part for now and he’ll done the grey latex mo-cap suit for The Avengers 3. The reports do not confirm. We’ll have to wait on the official word from Marvel to get a clearer idea as we move forward.
Director James Gunn has had a few words about the Guardians involvement in the MCU in past interviews,
“We’re definitely connected by Thanos. This is the first movie in the Marvel cosmic universe. We’re connected to the rest of the [Marvel Cinematic] Universe. How that plays out is gonna be seen as the future comes along.”
Directed by Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, John C. Reilly, Benecio Del Toro, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Glenn Close, and Michael Rooker.
Guardians of the Galaxy lands in theaters in 2D, RealD 3D, and IMAX 3D on August 1, 2014.
