First ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Trailer Will Have You Hooked on a Feeling (83 Screenshots)

Guardians of the Galaxy Teaser Trailer Milano Pilot Quill

As promised, Jimmy Kimmel Live! premiered the first trailer for Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy. As one of the most anticipated movies of the year, this teaser trailer delivers on every level. Guardians of the Galaxy has everything you could want from a superhero film and there should be no question from the footage seen here that it will be the most daring feature Marvel Studios will have put out to date. Check out the first official trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy after the break, as well as 83 high quality screenshots.

Yesterday, fans got their first glimpse of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and his spaceship the Milano, along with his merry band of protectors of galaxy. Those who sat in Hall H during San Diego Comic-Con or ventured to D23 Expo in Anaheim this past summer should be familiar with some of the scenes depicted in this teaser. This is more of an extended version of that early footage along with enhanced visual effects.

James Gunn is simply a fantastic choice for director of this rag tag group of space heroes whom are also perfectly cast. Fighting side by side with Peter Quill, the rest of the Guardians are introduced one by one in a lineup at Nova Corps, an intergalactic space police force. Little dialogue if any is said, but Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautisita), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper), and Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) all get their moment in the spotlight in this trailer, showing off their unique characteristics with narration by John C. Reilly who plays Rhomann Dey, a leader of the Nova Corps.

This trailer sets the tone, the aesthetics, and the visuals wonderfully. For a film that has to introduce five new characters, including many other secondary characters and villains, this teaser does a nice job as if it were the set up to the film itself. There’s a great sense of humor to be found, as well as a lot of action and gun fire, but what’s missing is story. Although this is a truly nice teaser, I wish they gave a hint as to what these Guardians are exactly protecting.

What I can assume is that the folks at Marvel want to establish these characters as something all audiences can get behind and then introduce the story in the next trailer. Which is fine, I’m just impatient because I want this movie a year ago! The Guardians themselves are set up nicely, but who are these other characters and what do they have to do with the story.

There is Nebula (Karen Gillan) the blue and purple looking alien who is a pirate and mercenary. Next there is Taneleer Tivan aka The Collector (Benecio Del Toro) who fans may recognize in a previous mid-credits scene in Thor: The Dark World. The Collector is another villain who is one of the Elders of the Universe and is a very powerful being and formidable foe. And finally there is Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) who may be the guy lifting Drax by his throat, but he isn’t given any time of day in this trailer, which is fine because it is already a beauty mess of clutter and awesomesuace and we don’t need it to be completely filled with exposition.

The synopsis of Guardians of the Galaxy can be seen here, courtesy of IMDb.com:

In the far reaches of space, an American pilot named Peter Quill finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan.

Alongside the previously mentioned actors, Guardians of the Galaxy also stars Djimon Hounsou, Michael Rooker, and Glenn Close. Check out the latest Captain America: The Winter Soldier trailer to see what comes this April before GOTG this fall.

GOTG is shaping up nicely; let’s hope they can tie this group of lesser known heroes in nicely with The Avengers on Earth so they can all play together in The Avengers 3!

Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters August 1, 2014.
