Movies on Blu-Ray

Divergent (Neil Burger) In a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she’s Divergent and won’t fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it’s too late. Starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, and Jai Courtney

Here I thought we’d get a decently interesting movie with a solid cast and creative story. Nope, just another YA sci-fi romance mess. (Read my review.) The special features, for those so inclined to purchase the Blu-ray, includes:

  • “Bringing Divergent to Life” Documentary
  • “Faction Before Blood” Featurette
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Audio Commentary with Director Neil Burger
  • Audio Commentary with Producers Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher
  • Deleted Scenes

Need for Speed (Scott Waugh) Fresh from prison, a street racer who was framed by a wealthy business associate joins a cross country race with revenge in mind. His ex-partner, learning of the plan, places a massive bounty on his head as the race begins. Starring Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Scott Mescudi, and Imogen Poots

I had absolutely little expectations for this film, and so my experience was not a total waste of time. The practical effects are cool, but the story and the characters are so paper thin that it’s just too unbearable to enjoy. (Read my review.) Special features included are:

  • Capturing Speed: Making An Authentic Car Movie
  • Ties That Bind
  • The Circus Is In Town
  • Feature Audio Commentary with Director Scott Waugh and Aaron Paul
  • Monarch & Maverick Outtakes with Introduction by Director Scott Waugh
  • 4 Deleted Scenes with Introductions by Director Scott Waugh
  • The Sound Of Need For Speed
  • “B-Camera” – Crash Compilation with introduction by Director Scott Waugh (Easter Egg)
  • Need For Speed™ Rivals Trailer

Oculus (Mike Flanagan) A woman tries to exonerate her brother, who was convicted of murder, by proving that the crime was committed by a supernatural phenomenon. Starring Karen Gillan, Brenton Thwaites, Katee Sackhoff, and Rory Cochrane

I thought this had potential, but never judge a movie by a good movie poster. The characters and story are just basic and predictable. Special features included are:

  • Deleted Scenes with Optional Commentary by Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy
  • Inside The Mirror: Creating Oculus
  • Original Oculus 33 Minute Short Film with Optional Commentary by Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy
  • Commentary by Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy
  • Theatrical Trailer

Television

Community (Dan Harmon) – DVD ONLY – A suspended lawyer is forced to enroll in a community college with an eclectic staff and student body. Starring Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Jim Rash, Donald Glover, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jonathan Banks, Ken Jeong, John Oliver

Pop! Pop! Community came back with a vengeance for their fifth season and fans were rewarded. This was a quintessential season after the showrunner Dan Harmon was fired after the third season and was then asked to come back for this fifth season. It was definitely a return to form and highly entertaining. Special features includes:

  • Cast and crew Commentary on every episode!
  • Outtakes
  • Re-animating the ’80s
  • Cast & crew Commentary on every episode!
  • Advanced television production: 5 days, 2 scripts, no sleep
