Now Available to Own: Draft Day, Person of Interest, The Sims 4, and More

Television on Blu-Ray

Person of Interest: The Complete Third Season (Jonathan Nolan) A former CIA operative is recruited by an enigmatic billionaire to prevent violent crimes. Starring Jim Caviezel, Taraji P. Henson, Kevin Chapman, and Michael Emerson

Jonathan Nolan does no wrong. I am not a fan of procedurals, but Person of Interest does a rather solid job at keeping its story fresh and compelling. In its third season, POI does well by continuing its tension filled investigations and little surprises within the story arcs. Special features included are:

  • Person of Interest: The Future of A.I.
  • Saying Goodbye to a Friend
  • Bear on Set
  • 2013 Comic Con Panel
  • Season finale audio commentary from Michael Emerson
  • Gag Reel
  • Digital comics based on each episode

The Originals: The Complete First Season (Julie Plec) The Original vampire family, from The Vampire Diaries, return and settle in the city they helped build, New Orleans. Starring Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, and Phoebe Tonkin

Not everyone likes a spin-off, but at least The Originals sticks to its guns. A little darker than The Vampire Diaries, fans of the franchise will enjoy the expansion of the world and the unique characters. Special features included are:

  • Pilot Commentary
  • 2013 Comic-Con Panel
  • 2014 PaleyFest Panel
  • The Originals: Origins
  • The Originals: Re-mixing History
  • The Original Vampires: A Bite-sized Backstory

New Girl: The Complete Third Season (DVD Only) (Elizabeth Meriwether) After a bad break-up, Jess, an offbeat young woman, moves into an apartment loft with three single men. Although they find her behavior very unusual, the men support her – most of the time. Starring Jake Johnson, Zooey Deschanel, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, Hannah Simone, and Damon Wayans Jr.

I really love the chemistry this show has amongst its core characters, but the set ups and story arcs are beginning to run a little ragged. There hasn’t been much evolution to these characters since we first met them, but they are still as likeable as ever. Special features included are:

  • Deleted Scenes and Extended Scenes
  • The Happy Hook-up Heartbreak Guide to “New Girl”
  • Drop That Name
  • Gag Reel

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelpha: The Complete Ninth Season (DVD Only) (Rob McElhenney) Four young friends with big egos and slightly arrogant attitudes are the proprietors of an Irish bar in Philadelphia. Starring Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, Kaitlin Olson, and Danny DeVito

How these guys come up with zanier adventures than we’ve seen before is beyond me. Who knew that this group of misfits could reach a ninth season. That’s more than some critically acclaimed network shows. These sociopaths are some of the funniest people on television today and deserve better than FXX. Special features includes:

  • Sweet Dee’s Comedy Reel
  • The Invigaron Presentation
  • Lethal Weapon 6: Director’s Cut
  • The Gang Does 100 Episodes
  • Every Damn Take of Charlie’s Theme Song
  • Audio Commentaries on Select Episodes
  • Gag Reel

The League: The Complete Fifth Season (DVD Only) (Jackie Marcus Schaffer and Jeff Schaffer)  Semi-scripted comedy about a fantasy football league. Starring Mark Duplass, Nick Kroll, Jonathan Lajoie, Stephen Rannazzisi, Paul Scheer, and Katie Aselton

I really enjoy The League, but like New Girl, the strain on the shows concept is wearing thin. Sure, these guys and gals are absolutely hilarious, and the situations they get into are big spectacles, but there is nothing that interesting about the characters that keep me too hooked. Don’t get me wrong, this show is a gas, but I want a little something more. Special features included are:

  • Deleted Scene
  • Taco Tones
  • Gag Reel
  • Alt Nation
