Alycia Debnam-Carey and Frank Dillane Join the 'The Walking Dead' Companion Series

As if The Walking Dead mid-season finale wasn’t enough for zombie fans, casting news of the series’ spin-off has been confirmed. Alycia Debnam-Carey (Into the Storm) and Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) will the next flesh bags to attempt survival Robert Kirkman’s zombie apocalypse. Learn more about their characters after the break.

According to a report from Deadline, the currently untitled Walking Dead companion series – a completely new story from Robert Kirkman not found in the comics – will focus on four characters. Cobalt, as the article codenames the show, follows a male divorced teacher and a female guidance counselor.

Debnam-Carey and Dillane play the woman’s offspring. Dillane’s character will be battling a drug problem while Debnam-Carey’s character has great ambition. Ambitions for what, we don’t know, but hopefully they aren’t to be the next world famous cellist, that profession would seem a bit invaluable.

TV Line released an article earlier this year that described the new characters in full:

SEAN CABRERA | A Latino male in his early 40s, Sean is a good man trying to do right by everyone in his life.

CODY CABRERA | Sean’s whip-smart and rebellious teenage son. Known as the angriest kid in town.

NANCY TOMPKINS | A thirtysomething single mom to two kids, Nancy looks like the girl next door, but there’s an edge to her.

NICK TOMPKINS | Nancy’s screwed up teenage son. He’s too old to stay home, too scared to flee.

ASHLEY TOMPKINS | Nancy’s mostly level-headed teenage daughter. Her ambition is in direct proportion to her older brother’s failures. She loves her mom but it’s time to get out of Dodge.

ANDREA CHAPMAN | A somewhat wilted flower child, fortysomething Andrea — yep, another Andrea! — has retreated to the outskirts of the city to recover after a horrible marriage.

The descriptions definitely line up with Deadline’s follow story. So we have our Ashley and Nick cast, but who will play the others?

Dave Erickson who helped write the pilot with Kirkman will act as showrunner for Cobalt. Adam Davidson, who has a long history behind the camera on such TV shows as Hell on Wheels, Community, and Parenthood, is set to direct the pilot with a premiere date to be determined.
