We’re less than a month out until The Walking Dead picks up the second half of Season 5 on February 8. After a very strenuous first half, the group is a looking a little bit worse for wear. AMC has released two promo trailers, giving us our first look at where we left off. How will the group move on? What is their state of mind after the last traumatizing event? Find out after the break.
“Surviving. Surviving together is all that matters. It’s all that matters,” says a gruff and tired Rick Grimes (Andrews Lincoln). Without a place to call home, our survivors are left to defend themselves until they can find a new base of operations to start anew. This first teaser doesn’t really set into motion any plot details of what’s to come, but it does provide us with a mood that makes the safety of the group more prominent than ever before.

In this second trailer, Rick advises the group that they must endure in order to live. After Terminus and returning to Atlanta, it would be hard to believe that there would be any more gas left in the tank. But according to a piece of paper, “the new world’s gonna need Rick Grimes.” But what kind of world will it be?
From this teaser we can gather that the survivors take on a flock of zombies to vent out their frustrations. They seem a bit frazzled, but looks as though they have been able to find some kind of shelter in a neighborhood. There is also a quick shot of a gated area, which comic book readers may deduce where we’ll be heading to next. No new characters were introduced, but creator Robert Kirkman hinted at someone after the mid-season finale. All answers will be revealed soon enough.

Here is the official plot synopsis for Season 5 Part 2 of The Walking Dead, courtesy of AMC:
After the tragic events of the mid-season finale–as well as losing the possibility of a cure in Washington, DC–Rick Grimes’ band of survivors find themselves on the road, surviving day to day and trying to hold on to their shredded humanity and dwindling hope.
Stripped of security and without a direction for the future, some of the group near their breaking point, some find themselves hardened and cold and some just try to grasp on to what little they have left.
Though they are still breathing, the line between Rick’s group and the dead is starting to blur.
Could there be anything at this point that brings them back to life?
[BRIEF MINOR-SPOILER TALK BEGINS NOW]
Based on Kirkman’s hint, seeing the gated wall in the teaser, and of course my knowledge of the comics, I believe the group will end up in the Alexandria Safe-Zone community. Our friends will meet Aaron, and then of course Douglas, the former Democratic U.S. Congressman for the state of Ohio. It will be nice to see this show thriving of life and new characters once again, but the group will still be far from safety.
[BRIEF SPOILER TALK ENDS NOW]
