It’s hard to believe that it was only three short years ago since the Kings of Tampa hit the big screen and destroyed all expectations. This summer, the boys are back in town in Magic Mike XXL, and the stripper with the heart of gold, Channing Tatum, is getting the band back together. I won’t bore you with the details, check out the first trailer after the break.
And there you have it, the Magic Mike XXL trailer in all of its glory. (Did you get the part where his penis was the metal rod he was grinding away? Symbolism! Metaphors!) From what I gather, without Steven Soderbergh in the director’s chair this time, MMXXL is going full blockbuster and not so much of a character drama. However, Soderbergh was the cinematographer and editor for this sequel. It will be interesting to see what kind of tone this movie will take on.
Like me, I’m sure many were surprised with how Magic Mike was more about the character and less about the stripping. Although there is a lot of brilliantly choreographed dance sequences, I the film to be quite intriguing due to its thoughtful script. Returning to scribe the sequel was Reid Carolin with the help of C-Tates this time around. I’m quite curious what direction they will take Mike because it looks as though his career in furniture design didn’t pan out as well as he had hoped.
