Video Games
Guitar Hero Live (FreeStyleGames) [Available for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, and iOS] – FreeStyleGames have reinvented the legendary Guitar Hero franchise, with two innovative new gameplay modes and an all-new guitar controller. GH Live mode puts you onstage, looking out: you get a heart-stopping first-person perspective as a real crowd reacts to the notes you play. Or switch over to GHTV — a playable music video network, where you can play along in real time, discover new music, and challenge friends around the world.
I grew tired of Guitar Hero back in college. Yes it has some very challenging tasks, but it all becomes really repetitive. All of the new features seem great for the next generation of gamers, but personally I need something with more substance.

Life is Strange – Episode Five (Dontnod Entertainment) [Available for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC] – Life Is Strange is a five part episodic game that sets out to revolutionise story based choice and consequence games by allowing the player to rewind time and affect the past, present and future. In Episode 5, Max learns that time is impossible to control as she moves inexorably towards the most agonising decision of her life. Arcadia Bay, meanwhile, is preparing to weather a huge storm as Life is Strange comes to a gripping and gut wrenching conclusion.
I’ve never played one of these new choice and consequences games, but the idea of Life is Strange intrigues me.
Key game features include:
- A beautifully written modern adventure game
- Rewind time to change the course of events.
- Multiple endings depending on the choices you make.
- Striking, hand-painted visuals
- Distinct, licensed indie soundtrack
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate (Ubisoft Quebec) [Available for PlayStation 4, XBox One, and PC on October 23] – London, 1868. The Industrial Revolution fattens the purses of the privileged while the working class struggles to survive — until two Assassins rise to lead the world’s first organized crime family. Conquer the streets of London. Bring the ruling class to their knees. Make history in a visceral adventure unlike any game you’ve played before.
Is it bad that I own all of the Assassin’s Creed games up through Unity and have never taken them out of the cellophane yet? They look fun and the fact that the stories interconnect and span globally across through the different eras is fascinating.

- PlayStation Exclusive Content
- Take Over the London Underworld
- All New Combat System
- Play as Twin Assassin’s
- Gold Edition Includes Jack the Ripper Story Campaign
