Movies on Blu-ray

Jurassic World (Colin Trevorrow) Rated PG-13 [124 min] – Twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park, Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond. After 10 years of operation and visitor rates declining, in order to fulfill a corporate mandate, a new attraction is created to re-spark visitor’s interest, which backfires horribly. Starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Irrfan Khan, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Nick Robinson

Jurassic World is an overly bloated sequel machine that never reaches the level of visual storytelling that Jurassic Park is able to achieve. There are no characters to truly resonate with, especially the kids, and the “villain’s” intentions are severely underwritten and almost cartoonish. The entire time while watching Jurassic World it felt as though Trevorrow was angry at the state of the industry and wanted to make it his mission to metaphorically comment on how corporate Hollywood has become. My positive feelings toward this film have greatly waned since I saw it in theaters. It’s a giant spectacle over-hyped by nostalgia.

Special features include:

  • Welcome to Jurassic World
  • Jurassic World: All-Access Pass
  • Innovation Center Tour with Chris Pratt
  • Jurassic’s Closest Shaves
  • Dinosaurs Roam Once Again
  • Chris & Colin Take on the World
  • Delete Scenes

The Vatican Tapes (Mark Neveldine) Rated PG-13 [91 min] – A priest and two Vatican exorcists must do battle with an ancient satanic force to save the soul of a young woman. Starring Olivia Taylor Dudley, Michael Peña, Dougray Scott, and Djimon Hounsou

Can we please stop with the demonic/satanic possession movies. There’s no original thoughts ehre, the scares are all predictable, and there’s nothing new this movie is trying to say. Granted, The Vatican Tapes does end on a unique turn of events, but the entire time it’s as if you’re watching someone tick off boxes from an exorcism checklist.

Special features include:

  • Audio Commentary with Director Mark Neveldine, Cinematographer Gerardo Madrazo and Actress Olivia Taylor Dudley
  • “Tale of the Tapes” Featurette
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Extended Scenes

Back to the Future: 30th Anniversary Trilogy Edition (Robert Zemeckis) Rated PG [116/108/118 min] – A young man is accidentally sent 30 years into the past in a time-traveling DeLorean invented by his friend, Dr. Emmett Brown, and must make sure his high-school-age parents unite in order to save his own existence. Starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Thomas F. Wilson, Crispin Glover, Claudia Wells, and Mary Steenburgen

This is one of the best trilogies ever made. Period. End of discussion.

The Wolfpack (Crystal Moselle) [Limited] Rated R [80 min] – Locked away from society in an apartment on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, the Angulo brothers learn about the outside world through the films that they watch. Nicknamed, ‘The Wolfpack,’ the brothers spend their childhood reenacting their favorite films using elaborate homemade props and costumes. Their world is shaken up when one of the brothers escapes and everything changes. Starring Bhagavan Angulo, Govinda Angulo, Jagadisa Angulo, and Krsna Angulo

I’m not a documentary guy. I enjoy the good ones, but it takes a lot of energy for me to want to watch them. That being said, The Wolfpack is a fascinating true tale that feels unbelievable. The story is absolutely shocking to digest and the way the family presents itself and tells their story is simply incredible. You can’t take your eyes off the screen, every word must be heard.

Funny Comic-Con 2015 Cosplay Outtakes [Photo Gallery]

Just when you thought enough was enough, I’ve got a special Comic-Con 2015 cosplay outtakes photo gallery I know you will enjoy. While many photographers at SDCC prefer cosplayers to do action poses or some kind of stance in character, I like to bring a little more excitement into the mix by taking them out of character. And as much as their wonderful costumes speak to each individual’s own personality and tastes, my idea behind asking cosplayers to make a funny face or to do a silly pose is to bring a little more human element to their characters.

It’s also about letting cosplayers have more fun in their day and not having to do the same old pose. I’m not sure how it actually started, but I noticed when I began asking this of cosplayers that they were more than happy to oblige. I definitely enjoy seeing what everyone can come up with on the fly because each time is different. Certain characters such as the Survey Corps from Attack on Titan only have a few poses. Do you want to see Batman doing the same grim face or have him sticking his tongue out? Cinderella giving a stink face? No problem. Or how about Captain American taking a selfie? Asking cosplayers to do something out of the ordinary really opens the doors to their own creativity.

And that’s just my two cents. TL;DR? I want to give cosplayers the opportunity to be themselves and to have fun. That’s the point of this crazy madness of pop culture conventions, right? Make the fandom your own and have a blast doing it. I hope you enjoy the cosplay outtakes!

Preview Night and Thursday Comic-Con 2015 Cosplay Photo Gallery

This is the moment you’ve all been preparing for people. San Diego Comic-Con. The grandaddy of them all. The place for cosplayers from around the globe to show the world what they’ve got. Turn The Right Corner will be on the scene all SDCC weekend to capture images of cosplayers in their natural environment.

As I trekked out into the sea of people downtown San Diego, I noticed that there didn’t seem to be as many cosplayers out and about during Preview Night or on Thursday. I remained vigilant, and scoured inside and outside of the convention center to ensure we found the best cosplayers of the weekend. Although there were many awesome cosplayers, much of what I found related to X-Men, The Avengers, Batman and DC villains, and Star Wars. Of course, I was most happy to run into an incredible Mad Max: Fury Road family group. They were fantastic!

WonderCon 2015 Sunday Cosplay Photo Gallery Images

And on the third day, Easter Day, WonderCon cosplayers did not rest. They were not finished with their work as one final day of the con was left to explore and enjoy. There were a good handful of creative Easter Bunny/Jesus cosplay parodies roaming the Anaheim Convention Center. And like Saturday at WonderCon, from a legion of Deadpools to Warrior Disney Princesses, Sunday was also full of really inspiring fans who put in a lot of time into their costumes.

Observations that occurred:

  • I find X-23 and Psylocke to be my favorite of the X-Men cosplays I see at conventions, for reasons. Kitty Pryde is also great.
  • Cosplayers who dress up as Valka from How to Train Your Dragon 2 go all out.
  • Deadpool cosplayers ran amok more on Sunday compared to Saturday. I’m sure it had something to do with Easter, obviously…
  • We need more Fullmetal Alchemist cosplayers. C’mon people!
  • It’s always nice to see widely popular characters that no one regularly cosplays out in the wild, like Lydia from Beetlejuice or Daria.
  • Until this weekend, I never noticed how many people crossplay.
  • I saw two Negans running around on Sunday. Fans of The Walking Dead series are in for a treat that only comic readers have been privy too, and I predict we’ll see an influx of that character at cons soon – just like the Governor.
  • It was cool to meet Robert Franzese, the real Peter Griffin.
  • I’m surprised I didn’t see more appearances from Peggy Carter.
  • There were very few Doctor Who fans running around, which is quite abnormal.
  • And finally, I hope that after Star Wars Episode VII that people will find someone new to cosplay as other than Boba Fett.

And for those who are reading this for the first time and did not check out our cosplay photo gallery from Saturday at WonderCon 2015: you’ll notice a lot of cosplayers doing goofy poses or making funny, derp faces. I try to make it fun for cosplayers to breakaway from their action poses and bring in a humanizing factor to represent them as fans and people rather than just random people dressing up in costume. This series of abnormal poses has created some really fun character moments for both cosplayers and fans alike. I hope you enjoy!

WonderCon 2015 Saturday Cosplay Photo Gallery [200+ Images!]

From Attack on Titan flash mobs to wild Daleks running around the Anaheim Convention Center, cosplayers were out in full force at this year’s WonderCon. Saturday was definitely the busiest day of the con, perfect for cosplay connoisseurs to strut their stuff. Comic-Con may be the mecca for cosplayers to showoff their creativity, but don’t count out WonderCon. There were a ton of amazing cosplayers this year that were not just creative, but pretty high quality too.

Observations that occurred:

  • Her character was only announced earlier this year and already Spider-Gwen has become a widely popular character
  • There were a lot fewer Attack on Titan fans in Scout Regiment garb than I am using to seeing at cons
  • However, Kill la Kill has definitely blown up over the past year
  • Although I didn’t get any pics of them, there were quite a lot of Korras I saw running around in the distance
  • Game of Thrones and DC Comics’ characters were the most seen on Saturday, enough so that that they formed their own gatherings in the fountain plaza
  • Big Hero 6, especially Honey Lemon, has also become a very beloved character to cosplay
  • Aside from the Griff Tanen, I was surprised by the lack of Back to the Future cosplayer as it’s 2015
  • Elsa from Frozen has become the new Slave Leia
  • I didn’t see any Trekkies?
  • The Walking Dead cosplayers from Reel Guise resemble their actor counterparts too eerily close. You might recall seeing the Carol on Talking Dead if you watch it
  • And of course the Deadpools were Deadpooling

And from the images below, you’ll notice that some cosplayers are acting out of character. That’s because, either last year or the year before, I figured that as much fun as people have creating their outfits and becoming the characters they are also fans too. So to humanize the whole culture of cosplay I’ve been asking them to pose out of character in either wacky poses or making silly derp faces. This series of abnormal poses has created some really fun character moments for both cosplayers and fans alike.
