Whopper Freakout wins Effie

Due to their outrageous campaign to boost sales with the Whopper, this campaign has won the Effie for the restaurant category. What is an Effie – The Effie Awards were founded in 1968 by the American Marketing Association, New York Chapter, as an awards program to recognize the most effective advertising efforts in the United States each year (effie.org). This is a great accomplishment for their effective and very creative marketing campaign. Congrats!

Another notable Effie winner this year are, Dos Equis Most Interesting Man for alcoholic beverages.

Here are a couple ads found throughout the web this week, Enjoy.

Durex – Great, yet annoying. Although they don’t talk about safe sex, this is just a fun and different perspective on condom advertising.

George Lucas should learn from this

This new videogame, Star Wars: The Old Republic, that was displayed for the first time during E3 ’09 has to be one of the coolest looking Star War games ever; well the trailer at least looks cool, even tho it is some MMO game. If only George Lucas sat down, thought about how he should create the prequels and maybe it might have turned out like this:

Yes, yes and ummmm yes!

This video is pretty amazing, The literal summarization of the video Total Eclipse of the Heart……

Beauty is in the Eye of the Ad Industry

A great article has come across my mitts about the strange advertising campaigns at Unilever. To those not within the advertising game, Unilever creates products such as Dove Soap and Axe. One brand tells women to believe in themselves and feel beautiful, while on the other end of the spectrum we have a brand who sells products to 13 year old boys, telling them to try and attract women with their sex appeal. Silly silly ad industry.

Blink 182 concert this summer

For those of you living under a rock or in a damp cave, Blink 182 has returned and are going on tour this summer with Weezer, Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco. This all-star studded tour has started preselling tickets and are available here. All you have to do is type in the password “stimulus” in the blink fan club section to get this special presale.

Marvel is Super… (UPDATED)

Those at AICN have discovered new Marvel poster art for the new superhero flicks (Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, The Avengers) coming out in the near but distant future.

Also…a SPIDER-MAN 4 poster, which should be starting filming sometime beginning next year I think. And luckily Stan Lee is writing the story again just like Spider-man 2 & 3, unlike that silly disaster of a blockbuster Spider-man 3.

Update: Seems as though that the Spider-man 4 poster is a fake and their has been no official release of any marketing for this film as of late. Silly people making fakes and having their fun with fanboys.

Remakes…Remakes…Remakes……

There are some remakes that can be good or decent that have/are coming out recently: Friday the 13th, The Nightmare on Elmstreet (should be decent), Ocean’s Eleven, Casino Royale, Dawn of the Dead, The Hills Have Eyes (seems like all horror remakes are the only movies getting remade).

but some are just becoming ridiculous and Bollywood seems to be running out of ideas for movies these days. Taking of Pehlem 1, 2, 3 (the third remake of the franchise); The Neverending Story; Alien, The Flight of the Navigator, Will Smith producing the Karate Kid, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Crow, Total Recall……… STOP JUST STOP. This is just getting way out of hand.

I can’t wait for the day that the great screenwriters out there will remake Mean Girls, Independence Day, Billy Madison, Napoleon Dynamite, Casablanca, Wedding Crashers, Forrest Gump, and maybe even Gone With the Wind, hell even Half Baked.
