DreamWorks Releases First KUNG FU PANDA 3 Trailer [72 Screenshots]

The first Kung Fu Panda 3 trailer released today, which included a character teased at the end of Kung Fu Panda 2, Po’s father Li Shan, voiced by Bryan Cranston in the upcoming sequel. It’s been four years since we last saw our kung fu animal friends take on an evil peacock voiced by Gary Oldman; and it’s been an astonishing seven years since the original film debuted back in 2008. Is there still gas in the tank for this once beloved franchise?

Although there isn’t much in the way of story revealed within the Kung Fu Panda 3 trailer, Li’s first encounter with his son offers a great humorous beat that speaks to Po’s personality. Cranston, who has worked on Family Guy, Archer, and The Cleveland Show, was born to do voice work. His delivery and timing is executed brilliantly. J.K. Simmons has also joined the cast as the main antagonist, Kai, a bull with glowing green eyes.

The Kung Fu Panda series has always had such beautifully choreographed fight sequences, and the action at the beginning of the trailer leaves no doubts for this next installment. It will be interesting to see what kind of fighting style Kai will have.

Here’s the official plot synopsis for Kung Fu Panda 3 courtesy of DreamWorks Animation:

When Po’s long-lost panda father suddenly reappears, the reunited duo travels to a secret panda paradise to meet scores of hilarious new panda characters. But when the supernatural villain Kai begins to sweep across China defeating all the kung fu masters, Po must do the impossible—learn to train a village full of his fun-loving, clumsy brethren to become the ultimate band of Kung Fu Pandas!

Despite what a handful of critics felt about the sequel, I’m still positive toward the series and have been looking forward to the third chapter of this story. Kung Fu Panda was part of my resurgence into animated feature films, and I’m hoping Kung Fu Panda 3 continues to keep the franchise strong.

Second ‘Poltergeist’ Trailer Continues to Proves Superfluousness [50 Screenshots]

As the impeding threat of the latest horror remake, Poltergeist, draws ever near, the marketing continues to batten down the hatches to confirm that it will have all your favorite bits from the original. If you’ve never seen the 1982 horror film, I guess this film is shrouded in interesting mystery and full of some frights, but for true fans, this latest trailer is pretty much a slap in the face.

I’d like to understand the necessity of this Poltergeist remake other than the fact that they needed to update the television set for this generation. They might as well make a modern version of You’ve Got Mail because AOL is extinct and people use Tinder now. Sam Rockwell is amazing in most any role he touches, but I’m dumbfounded on the idea that someone saw this necessary to remake.

Most of this footage is rehashed from the first trailer, only this time voiced over by the typecasted Jared Haris, who lays down the foundation of plot for the uninitiated. While he delivers a most bland explanation of what’s happening to the Bowen family, scenes mirroring the original flash by to ensure that this Poltergeist reboot is as superfluous as someone texting in a movie theater. There’s no place for it and it makes me rather upset.

The practical effects of the original are more wonderful to behold when viewing the original Poltergeist. From the scene in the bathroom to the tree to the closet door to the house of cards, it’s all better to see that practically done than with over the top CGI. Please Hollywood, just stop.

Here’s the, courtesy of 20th Century Fox, for those who have never seen the original Poltergeist before:

Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi (“Spiderman,” “Evil Dead”, “The Grudge”) and director Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and hold the youngest daughter captive, the family must come together to rescue her before she disappears forever.

Directed by Gil Kenan, Poltergeist stars Sam Rockwell, Jared Harris, Rosemarie DeWitt, Saxon, Sharbino, Kyle Catlett, Kennedi Clements, and Nicholas Braun. This film hits theaters on July 24, 2015.

Second ‘Spy’ Trailer Is Ready for Action [106 Screenshots]

Set to release in theaters this June, I still have my doubts about director Paul Feig’s latest venture, Spy. The latest trailer depicts Melissa McCarthy’s character Susan out in the field going toe-to-toe with some of the film’s antagonists, showing a little different side of her than what we’ve seen in Bridesmaids and The Heat. But is that enough to differentiate her from the other roles we’ve seen her in?

I’m not even cautiously optimistic at this point. From what we’ve seen in every trailer for Spy, the supporting cast is my biggest draw toward the film, but Melissa McCarthy I’m not too sure on. The story is so so in my mind at this moment. It’s different I’ll give it that, but its main draw is a fish out of water story.

I enjoyed Melissa McCarthy in Bridesmaids as a supporting character and I didn’t care much for her role in The Heat. She’s proven to have decent dramatic chops in the sub par St. Vincent, but going back to her comedy roots, I rather disliked Tammy and Identity Thief. What turns me off about Spy is that they continue to make her the bumbling goof falling over cars and unable to ride a scooter, while falling over. It’s unappealing and feeds into my doubts.

Does the world need another Melissa McCarthy movie? Are audiences ready for the actress to portray a wannabe spy?

Here’s the plot synopsis for Spy courtesy of 20th Century Fox:

Susan Cooper (Melissa McCarthy) is an unassuming, deskbound CIA analyst, and the unsung hero behind the Agency’s most dangerous missions. But when her partner (Jude Law) falls off the grid and another top agent (Jason Statham) is compromised, she volunteers to go deep undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer and prevent a global disaster.

Directed by Paul Feig, Spy stars Melissa McCarthy, Jason Statham, Rose Byrne, Miranda Hart, Bobby Cannavale, Allison Janney, and Jude Law. This movie will hit theaters on June 5, 2015.

Ryan Reynolds Tweets First Image of ‘Deadpool’ in Costume

Ryan Reynolds gave us our first look at the “Merc with a Mouth” when he Tweeted himself in costume for the upcoming Deadpool movie today. After a very disappointing stint as the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, fans will finally see the character the way he was truly meant to be.

With the highly anticipated Deadpool movie set for release in February of next year, Ryan Reynolds decided it best to tease fans by tweeting an official tongue-in-cheek photo of the iconic Deadpool costume a la Burt Reynolds’ – no relation – infamous centerfold in Cosmopolitan. While it is just an image, the tone serves as an indicator of what we can expect from the film. Clearly the team behind Deadpool definitely knows their audience as well as the satirical nature of the character.

In addition to a sneak peek of the official Deadpool costume, moviegoers were also treated to the launching of the Deadpool movie’s official Twitter as well as a synopsis listed on the Official Deadpool movie website:

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Now we know that the film will revolve around Deadpool’s origin story with Taken-esque elements of revenge driving the plot. Although, this is not anything too substantial, it is a lot more information than we have been privy to thus far.

Directed by Tim Miller, Deadpool stars Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson aka Deadpool, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa (confirmed on Instagram), T.J. Miller as Weasel (confirmed on Twitter), and Gina Carano as Angel Dust (confirmed on Hollywood Reporter). The film is set to be released in theaters on February 12, 2016.

‘Fantastic Four’ Trailer Teases Characters Looking at Things [55 Screenshots]

Fantastic Four 2015 Screenshot Reed Richards Miles Teller Powers Stretch

To say I’m excited about 20th Century Fox‘s attempt at rebooting the Fantastic Four is one of the biggest understatements I could make this year. With that said, the first teaser trailer does little to grow my anticipation with how underwhelming it is. Utilizing tactics from brooding superhero films, the X-Men franchise, and Interstellar, the Fantastic Four reboot has a long way to go before I am convinced of its necessity. Check out the trailer after the break. Continue reading
