What is said to be Michael Bay’s final contribution to the Transformers film franchise is turning out to be more spectacular than both movies combined. Go big or go home, right? This new 3D trailer that was in front of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides speaks for itself. Watching this massive trailer on an IMAX screen in 3D was almost worth more of my time than watching POTC itself (only because the trailer was two and a half minutes and not a whole movie). According to Transformers Live Action Movie Blog, this will be the last of the trailers we’ll be seeing before the film hits theaters June 29, not July 1 anymore. Check out the trailer in 2D after the jump where I also snagged 188 stills too!
For those of you doubting Dark of the Moon, it may just be my childhood that praises this franchise, but I think that Michael Bay has outdone himself again. Ok, maybe I don’t praise this film franchise, but I LOVE Transformers in general. Transformers Revenge of the Fallen had more than its fair share of issues (if you watch it on mute in full HD it’s good), but from all that I’ve read and seen about Dark of the Moon, I can’t help but be overjoyed with excitement.
I have held off from all the TV spots and reading the book adaptation this time, as I haven’t done so for the past two films. I want to be as in the dark for this movie as humanly possible. Transformers Revenge of the Fallen’s marketing ruined EVERYTHING for the movie. It practically showed all the money shots for the action scenes and left you with nothing to be surprised about when you went to see the film. This time around that is not happening to me.
There was a great interview with James Cameron and Michael Bay in regards to the 3D if you have any doubts about seeing it in that format. Also, many journalists have been granted a sneak peak at 15 minutes or so of footage in 3D as well.
Transformers Dark of the Moon looks like it ups the ante on all aspects of this franchise. It has a darker tone, it looks like they have improved the story structure, the action is bigger, the threat level is higher, and Megan Fox isn’t in it! What I am most looking forward to is more robot interaction and back story, and from what I’ve read, we get a good amount of it.
Again, seeing this trailer on an IMAX screen in 3D was incredible. I know that many have doubts about 3D movies, but this film looks like it completely utilizes the technology and gives you your bang for your buck; I can’t say any other 3D movie has done that other than Avatar. Michael Bay does not half-ass when it comes to his cinematography. He wants to make sure your eye balls get the full experience of his films. The environments have depth, things are flying at you, it increases the action intensity, and the picture didn’t look darker with the glasses on! I might as be as bold to say that this film could be the best live action film in 3D to date. I say it now, Transformers DOTM will get nominated for an Oscar in visual effects, sound mixing, and sound editing.
Unfortunately the only way you can see the 3D trailer in 3D is on your iPhone or iPod Touch with special glasses. If there is one movie you seen in 3D this Summer, make it Transformers Dark of the Moon, and if you want the best experience, check it out at your local IMAX theater!
