Earlier today, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS was officially announced with the addition of the Villager from Animal Crossing to the roster. And now two more characters are looking to crash the party. Making a big splash in one of the most highly revered fighting games include Mega Man, a classic third-party character from Capcom, and the Wii Fit Trainer? Check out the character reveal trailers after the break, along with multiple screenshots.
Since this morning’s announcement, the full roster for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS have not been released, but these two new additions are creating a lot of buzz. With the game not hitting shelves until 2014, we can assume a slow roll out of more fighters to come. Mega Man is a great choice for fans to be excited about. He’s had great results in Marvel vs. Capcom with his big bag of tricks, and his catalog of moves has increased for Super Smash Bros.
There are never too many third-party characters that fill up the roster – Snake from the Metal Gear Solid franchise was a nice surprise in Brawl – but Mega Man is a classic Nintendo icon from his days on the NES. In the trailer below you’ll find he has a large assortment of moves from his encounters with various maverick reploids such as Guts Man, Slash Man, Wood Man, and more. See for yourself:
There is no sign of Rush, Mega Man’s faithful robotic dog companion, but maybe we’ll catch a glimpse of him in a final smash attack. Mega Man comes off as a bit of a mix between Samus, Link, and Fox. He’s got the Buster Cannon that charges, the leaf shield like Fox’s, and Link’s sword and hard hitting melee attacks. But his moves are unique enough to be fun and stand on their own. Another great character for the Super Smash Bros. family.
There has always been some out of left field Nintendo characters on the Super Smash Bros. such as Dr. Mario, Ice Climbers, Jigglypuff, Mr. Game & Watch, and R.O.B., but the Wii Fit Trainer feels like a bit of a stretch. I love the trailers for both new characters, however the inclusion of the Wii Fit Trainer seems a bit off. Word on the E3 floor is that it generated many laughs during the reveal while also gaining a lot of praise for the off-the-wall decision to include her. Watch the trailer below:
No doubt, the Wii Fit Trainer is highly unique as a playable character. My first guess is that being so physically in-shape, she will be a very powerful character similar to Donkey Kong, Bowser, or Ganondorf, but highly agile and quick. Her close range game will make her a deadly player while she doesn’t appear to host any long distance attacks. Maybe she’ll throw some medicine balls.
What do you think of these two new additions? Who else would you like to see join the roster?
