Lionsgate continues to focus marketing efforts for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 in the perspective of The Capitol. It’s a very interesting approach that sets the tone perfectly for what the book sets up. After some terrific propaganda posters from The Capitol and now this teaser with President Snow and a special guest, things are shaping up very nicely for Mockingjay. Check out the teaser after the break.
Catching Fire left audiences with a few big cliffhangers. What has become of the fate of District 12 and its citizens? What will happen to Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) and Johanna Mason (Jena Malone)? There are more, but I won’t get into spoiler territory. As we can see here, half of one of those questions have been answered. It would appear Peeta is now the right hand of President Snow, and for us book readers we know exactly what his involvement in this PSA means for the character.
It’s a very chilling teaser that brings me hope that Francis Lawrence may have found a way to fix the issues from the lackluster book. The way this teaser was distributed and the content involved, it feels more like viral marketing than an actual teaser trailer with quick cuts of footage and vague conversations. I think it’s a really great start and I hope the marketing continues down this path.
I also find it rather intriguing that they chose not to feature Jennifer Lawrence. This is definitely a ballsy move that I truly appreciate. I think it shows that the studio cares about the fans and would rather be creative in selling the story rather than flash quick snippets of the film.
