Is showing a teaser for a film almost two years before its release too soon? Warner Bros. doesn’t think so. DC Comics fans who were able to get a seat in Hall H this Saturday were treated to a very special early sneak peak at Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. If you’d like to learn what was shown, you can keep reading after the break, or sit idly by and remain spoiler free. It’s your choice.
Let’s just get down to the nitty-gritty shall we.
The teaser opens up to a giant rainstorm with bombastic drums beating away like war cries. We see a figure standing next to a giant flood light, which one could assume is the Batman (Ben Affleck). We can assume this is Gotham City because where else would they have a giant flood light with the Bat Symbol on it. Batfleck grabs the switch and flips it on. It’s a much fatter Bat Symbol than we’re use to, but it’s brilliant to see.
Cut to a low angle shot from behind Batman looking up into the sky where the Bat Symbol is shining. The symbol is slightly muddled through the rain. A crack of lighting lights up sky and we see a little figure floating right where the Bat Symbol was glaring. It’s Superman. There’s close up of the Man of Steel as he gazes down at Bruce Wayne, and then his eyes begin to glow red.
The camera cuts back down to Batman with glowing eyes. We are up close and personal to Batman, he’s wearing a more armored suit, much like the one in Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns where he takes down Superman. This is not the Batsuit Zack Snyder teased on Twitter already. Fade to black. Uproarious screams and applause. Panties are tossed on stage.
It’s a brilliant teaser, enough to satisfy my cravings until the first official trailer is released. It’s going to be a long time until 2016.
