New BATMAN V SUPERMAN Teaser Features a Showdown of Unhappiness [23 Screenshots]

No one would blame you if you missed the new Batman v Superman teaser that aired during Gotham this evening – the series is a painstakingly hollow reminder that there is better Batman content in this world. So for those of us who did not tune into Fox, Warner Bros. was kind enough to upload the video to the Internet; as one would to get their content seen. Just a sneak peek of what’s to come, this short 50-second teaser sets the tone of one of the biggest cinematic showdowns in history.

If the brooding shown in the Batman v Superman teaser wasn’t enough, this short clip of the Dark Knight facing off against the Big Blue Boy Scout only serves as a prologue to the second official trailer, which will have its worldwide premiere during Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday, December 2 at 11:35/10:35 pm CST.

It’s hard to get a read on the situation between the two DC titans without context. From what I can gather, based on the previous trailer we’ve seen, Batman (Ben Affleck) is captured by Superman’s SWAT team and then taken to Supe’s (Henry Cavill) underground lair. Why Superman is so pissed off at Batman we’ll have to wait and see. Maybe Clark and Bruce have a kinship and he feels betrayed. What will this big unmasking mean for the two heroes? And who are the Superman loyalists in riot gear?

There hasn’t been an official plot synopsis released for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice yet, but we can surmise, based on the Comic-Con trailer, that Batman is really pissed at Superman and sees him as a threat to humanity. There’s also Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) who is scheming per usual, Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) shows up for some reason, and Zod’s body is in a plastic bag. Cool?

I’m still not entirely impressed with the whole confrontation. My inner fanboy should be geeking out hard, but because Warner Bros. hasn’t built up the mythos of their DC Cinematic Universe I don’t have any f*cks to give. If Zack Snyder and Co. can establish a good argument as to why the Batman needs to take down Superman along with setting up Affleck’s iteration of Bruce Wayne, all within this one movie, I will be greatly impressed.

I think my feelings about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice can be summed up best in LEGO Batman’s hit song, “Untitled Self Portrait”:

DARKNESS

NO PARENTS

CONTINUED DARKNESS

MORE DARKNESS

GET IT?

THE OPPOSITE OF LIGHT!!!

BLACK HOLE

CURTAINS DRAWN

IN THE BASEMENT

MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT

BLACKED OUT WINDOWS

BLACK SUIT

BLACK COFFEE

Comic-Con 2015: The BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE Trailer is Over-Hyped [121 Screenshots]

After many debacles over leaked trailers – first with Avengers: Age of Ultron and then the Batman v Superman IMAX teaser – Warner Bros. spared no time to get the Comic-Con trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice up on the Internets officially only an hour after its big premiere in Hall H today.

There is no plot synopsis available for the film yet, but the first full-length Batman v Superman trailer definitely provides some pretty good insights on what we can expect. But from what I read on Twitter about the trailer, since I did not attempt to wait in line for Hall H, is that I expected it to blow my mind. And when I watched it for the first time, I thought to myself, “meh.” ¯_(ツ)_/¯

As far as the genre of superhero movies is concerned, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. are taking the serious route to Grimsville. Which I’m completely OK with. That’s not what I have a problem with. I wouldn’t say I have superhero movie fatigue either because I’m still looking forward to Captain America: Civil War. What I believe the cause in my lack of engagement to the Batman v Superman trailer is that we have no familiarity with this iteration of the Batman (Ben Affleck). Nothing has been built up to make this epic showdown worthwhile, and Zack Snyder will have to establish this conflict quick and hard in the short time before the two titans of DC Comics collide.

Visually, thematically, and tonally I am digging everything they are throwing at me in this trailer, but there’s something internally telling me not to let my guard down. Let us not forget how incredibly cool the trailer for Zack Sndyer’s Sucker Punch looked and how that film turned out. The same could be said for Snyder’s Watchmen too – but I liked that film. I’m reserving any joy for this movie until March 25. However, there’s a lot to digest that could still make Batman v Superman a solid experience.

What catches my attention the most is the plot, and how the world is at conflict about Superman (Henry Cavill). Should he be held responsible for the battle against Zod in Metropolis? I doubt it’s just me, but I get a real homophobic vibe with all the picketers at Superman’s committee hearing – one says, “You can’t be Christian and an alien” while another says “God hates aliens.” Through all of this, we can see the wheels of manipulation spinning thanks to Lex Luther (Jesse Eisenberg). And finally, despite only having maybe four seconds of screen time, Gal Gadot looks fantastic as Wonder Woman; how she plays into the story isn’t hinted at. I can only imagine she was thrown into this trailer to equal out the bro-chismo.

Friday Comic-Con 2015 Cosplay Photo Gallery

Let’s continue, shall we? When we last met, I shared with you all the incredible cosplayers from Preview Night and Thursday of Comic-Con 2015. We had to combine the day and a half excursion due to thinly spread costumed fans. Luckily, we didn’t have to search far on Friday to catch the many attendees dressed – or some undressed – to the nines in their favorite cosplay attire.

Disney Princesses, X-Men, DC villains, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Studio Ghibli, and The Legend of Korra fans flocked to the San Diego Convention Center to strut their stuff. And for those looking beyond the usual, there were plenty of characters that reach all fandoms. With the budding success of Mad Max: Fury Road, I was happy to see more cosplayers taking on characters from the incredible film – my review.

Day reflections:

  • The folks from Nerd Chat Cosplay rocked it again
  • There was a spot on Agent Coulson cosplayer
  • Despite being an abundance of Harley Quinns everywhere you look, they’re always so creative
  • I will never look at the Droogs from A Clockwork Orange the same again
  • Mixing bodypaint and fandom to promote your mobile app is pretty smart if used correctly, as seen below
  • It’s incredible how some people can make human versions of Pokémon cute
  • The Samus Aran I met was very well done
  • I’m shocked by the lack of Kill la Kill and Attack on Titan
  • Spider-Gwen was also a huge hit at WonderCon. They’re pretty absent at SDCC
  • It’s my Dick in a Box!

‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ IMAX Teaser Event Recap and Posters

Batman v Superman Teaser Screenshot Henry Cavill 1

After the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer leaked last week, it seemed as if the Warner Bros. marketing team’s plans to for audiences to see the teaser in theaters fizzled out. How likely would folks make an extra effort to see the hi-res trailer when WB uploaded it online? Minutes later, director Zack Snyder confirmed there would be extra footage for those who choose to attend the IMAX event. Well I went, and was rewarded with five additional seconds of footage, which you can read about after the break. Continue reading

Leak Brings Warner Bros. to Release ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ Trailer Early [39 Screenshots + 21 GIFs]

This past Wednesday, director Zack Synder promised the world that a teaser for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice would be unleashed unto the world on Monday, April 20, 2015. Unfortunately some greedy, impatient people had other intentions. Last night, an English dubbed trailer with Portuguese subtitles was leaked and spread across the Internet like wildfire. Following Marvel Studios’ lead when it happened to Avengers: Age of Ultron, Warner Bros. released the Batman v Superman trailer today to give fans a full-HD version rather than a shaky blurred one.

As far as teaser trailers go, especially with how grandiose the new Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens teaser is, this Dawn of Justice teaser is pretty unimpressive on a visual scale for what could be a huge blockbuster in 2016. There’s been a lot of haters throwing shade at how dark and brooding this film looks, but I’m feeling it. I think fans are all upset because DC and WB didn’t set up enough mythology in their new shared Cinematic Universe to warrant this big showdown. And I’m with them. But I like the direction the story is going. The one thing I wish they included, one of many items, is the glowing red eyes of Superman that was seen during the Comic-Con teaser last year. I’m assuming they don’t want him to come off as that bad of a guy.

So many complained about Superman’s (Henry Cavill) careless destruction in Man of Steel and demanded repercussions for his actions. Well it looks to me as though we’ll be seeing those consequences take form, justice if you will. It’s just a first teaser and too many people are quick to judge less than two minutes of footage. I think the conversation that it builds up to before the “False God” statue is revealed is alluring, and you can hear Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor chime in at one point saying, “We know better now don’t we. Devils don’t come from hell beneath us, they come from the sky.”

There is certainly a power dynamic that the world is seeking to balance, and it looks like only Batman (Ben Affleck) seems up for the job; because the teaser definitely doesn’t show Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, or Cyborg. And that’s all well and good. I’m sure they’re only in the movie as brief cameos.

The one thing that does irk me about this teaser is Batman’s one line; it’s pretty silly. This is the best reaction to the last line of the teaser:

So I’m good to go for this for now until future trailers show me otherwise.

(Click on any thumbnail below to enlarge the image)

As I said, the original plan was for the teaser to debut on Monday until this leak happened. Warner Bros. even set up special screening events at certain IMAX theaters to play the teaser on the big screen – free passes are now unavailable and all have been claimed. So why should folks go out of their way to see the teaser at a theater when it’s now available online? Well Zack Snyder claims that additional footage has been added to reward those who come out to see it.

On one side of the coin, Warner Bros. created a different kind of marketing gimmick to encourage fans to get out and see a teaser the way it should be seen, on the big screen. But on the other side, they could have waited a month to release it and put it in front of Mad Max: Fury Road to increase ticket sales for their own movie. It’s a marketing gamble that I hope won’t be a growing trend.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne aka Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Ezra Miller as Barry Allen aka The Flash, Jason Mmoa as Arthur Curry aka Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Victor Stone aka Cyborg, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, and Diane Lane as Martha Kent. The movie is set to release in theaters on March 25, 2016.

WonderCon 2015 Sunday Cosplay Photo Gallery [250+ Images!]

And on the third day, Easter Day, WonderCon cosplayers did not rest. They were not finished with their work as one final day of the con was left to explore and enjoy. There were a good handful of creative Easter Bunny/Jesus cosplay parodies roaming the Anaheim Convention Center. And like Saturday at WonderCon, from a legion of Deadpools to Warrior Disney Princesses, Sunday was also full of really inspiring fans who put in a lot of time into their costumes.

Observations that occurred:

  • I find X-23 and Psylocke to be my favorite of the X-Men cosplays I see at conventions, for reasons. Kitty Pryde is also great.
  • Cosplayers who dress up as Valka from How to Train Your Dragon 2 go all out.
  • Deadpool cosplayers ran amok more on Sunday compared to Saturday. I’m sure it had something to do with Easter, obviously…
  • We need more Fullmetal Alchemist cosplayers. C’mon people!
  • It’s always nice to see widely popular characters that no one regularly cosplays out in the wild, like Lydia from Beetlejuice or Daria.
  • Until this weekend, I never noticed how many people crossplay.
  • I saw two Negans running around on Sunday. Fans of The Walking Dead series are in for a treat that only comic readers have been privy too, and I predict we’ll see an influx of that character at cons soon – just like the Governor.
  • It was cool to meet Robert Franzese, the real Peter Griffin.
  • I’m surprised I didn’t see more appearances from Peggy Carter.
  • There were very few Doctor Who fans running around, which is quite abnormal.
  • And finally, I hope that after Star Wars Episode VII that people will find someone new to cosplay as other than Boba Fett.

And for those who are reading this for the first time and did not check out our cosplay photo gallery from Saturday at WonderCon 2015: you’ll notice a lot of cosplayers doing goofy poses or making funny, derp faces. I try to make it fun for cosplayers to breakaway from their action poses and bring in a humanizing factor to represent them as fans and people rather than just random people dressing up in costume. This series of abnormal poses has created some really fun character moments for both cosplayers and fans alike. I hope you enjoy!

WonderCon 2015 Saturday Cosplay Photo Gallery [200+ Images!]

From Attack on Titan flash mobs to wild Daleks running around the Anaheim Convention Center, cosplayers were out in full force at this year’s WonderCon. Saturday was definitely the busiest day of the con, perfect for cosplay connoisseurs to strut their stuff. Comic-Con may be the mecca for cosplayers to showoff their creativity, but don’t count out WonderCon. There were a ton of amazing cosplayers this year that were not just creative, but pretty high quality too.

Observations that occurred:

  • Her character was only announced earlier this year and already Spider-Gwen has become a widely popular character
  • There were a lot fewer Attack on Titan fans in Scout Regiment garb than I am using to seeing at cons
  • However, Kill la Kill has definitely blown up over the past year
  • Although I didn’t get any pics of them, there were quite a lot of Korras I saw running around in the distance
  • Game of Thrones and DC Comics’ characters were the most seen on Saturday, enough so that that they formed their own gatherings in the fountain plaza
  • Big Hero 6, especially Honey Lemon, has also become a very beloved character to cosplay
  • Aside from the Griff Tanen, I was surprised by the lack of Back to the Future cosplayer as it’s 2015
  • Elsa from Frozen has become the new Slave Leia
  • I didn’t see any Trekkies?
  • The Walking Dead cosplayers from Reel Guise resemble their actor counterparts too eerily close. You might recall seeing the Carol on Talking Dead if you watch it
  • And of course the Deadpools were Deadpooling

And from the images below, you’ll notice that some cosplayers are acting out of character. That’s because, either last year or the year before, I figured that as much fun as people have creating their outfits and becoming the characters they are also fans too. So to humanize the whole culture of cosplay I’ve been asking them to pose out of character in either wacky poses or making silly derp faces. This series of abnormal poses has created some really fun character moments for both cosplayers and fans alike.
