For those wishing to catch their first glimpse of Walt Disney’s big-screen adaptation of the hit musical Into the Woods, today is your lucky day. The first trailer has just been released, teasing all of our favorite Grimm fairy tales. Check it out after the break.

A simple yet captivating teaser. Between the fantastical music mixed in with the stars and fairytale visuals, this could be one of the most fun movies of the holiday season. Seen within the trailer is Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy), Prince Charming (Chris Pine), the Witch (Meryl Streep), and the Wolf (Johnny Depp); Emily Blunt, James Corden, and Tracey Ullman also star.

Since its premiere on Broadway in 1987, the Tony Award winner for best score, book, and actress in a musical has ran for 764 performances. Directed by Rob Marshall, the man behind Oscar Best Picture winner Chicago, this film adaptation welcomes songs from the stage musical such as “Children Will Listen,” “Giants in the Sky,” “On the Steps of the Palace,” “No One Is Alone” and “Agony,” among others.

The plot synopsis for Into the Woods below comes courtesy of Apple Trailers:

Into the Woods is a humorous and heartfelt musical that follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.

Something notable within the press release for this film is that the three-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood (“Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Chicago,” “Alice In Wonderland”) is costume designer. We didn’t get a good glimpse of the Wolf other than his hand, but there should be a a good use of imagination to bring these characters to life.

Into the Woods hits theaters everywhere on Christmas Day, 2014.
