WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD, OBVIOUSLY

According to Latino Review, villains known as “the Inquisitors,” will be the big bads our heroes will be up against in Star Wars Episode VII. Who are The Inquisitors you ask? Well they were a task force, led by Darth Vader between Episodes III Revenge of the Sith and IV A New Hope, to hunt down the last remaining Jedi/ Although they know the ways of the dark side of the force, they are not defined as Sith. According to an interview by /Film with the creators of Star Wars Rebels, the lead Inquisitor, voiced by Jason Isaacs, is a foe not to be reckoned with.

The Inquisitor Star Wars Rebels

It’s been speculated that there will be a main Inquisitor just like in Rebels. The rumor mill has also been churning that the Inquisitor will be some sort of a cyborg. In fact, director, JJ Abrams (Lost, Fringe, Super 8) has already given fans a glimpse of him (his hand) in a photo holding a handwritten note regarding the “Star Wars: Force For Change” fundraising campaign, which raised over $5 million dollars in support of UNICEF.

If these reports and speculations are true, it will be interesting to see Star Wars in this kind of tone and direction. Having villains out side the Sith will definitely put a twist on the films we know and love and dramatically open the franchise up to new possibilities.

And if the Inquisitors do happen to be the main villains in Episode VII, is LucasFilm being steered by Disney to take on a transmedia universe like Marvel’s Cinematic Universe on the big screen and Agents of SHIELD on the small screen? If The Inquisitor is also the main villain, it will be definitely all eyes on Star Wars Rebels to evaluate how much of a threat he will truly be for Luke, Han, and Leia.

Star Wars Episode VII will be released in theaters December 18, 2015.
