Now Available to Own: How to Train Your Dragon 2, Batman, Assassin’s Creed Unity, and More

Video Games

Assassin’s Creed Unity (Available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC) Paris, 1789 – The French Revolution turns a once-magnificent city into a place of terror and chaos. Its cobblestone streets run red with the blood of commoners who dared to rise up against the oppressive aristocracy. As the nation tears itself apart, a young man named Arno will embark on an extraordinary journey to expose the true powers behind the Revolution. His pursuit will throw him into the middle of a ruthless struggle for the fate of a nation, and transform him into a true Master Assassin.

OK, so I haven’t played any of these games yet – I own a lot of the series, but just haven’t had the chance to sit down with them – but the more Ubisoft makes our Assassin’s travel further into time and continually develop the gameplay the more I’m intrigued to explore this world. Unity looks like a lot of fun now that you can work as a team with other Assassins. The key features in this game are:

  • A Unique Co-op Experience – In addition to an epic single-player campaign, join with up to three friends online and experience the open world of 18th-century Paris. Pull ambitious heists and take part in unique narrative-driven missions designed exclusively for co-op play. Sabotage an execution. Protect an emperor. Assassinate a Templar agent.
  • A Ruthless New Hero for a Brutal World – Take down your prey with a range of new weapons such as the Phantom Blade, a hidden blade with crossbow capabilities.
  • Brand-new Parkour, Combat, and Stealth Gameplay – Full motion control with new parkour mechanics for free running up, across, and down city walls and buildings. A reinvented fighting system provides a richer combat experience based on skill, timing, and flow. Enhanced stealth gameplay, including a new stealth mode, cover system, and crowd-manipulation techniques.
  • Deep Customization Mechanics to Craft Your Own Master Assassin – Craft a unique play style by choosing weapons, gear, outfits, and specialized skills. Mix and match from hundreds of possible combinations and build your stealth, fighting, and navigation abilities from a new, expansive skill tree.
  • Discover Revolutionary Paris – Carve through the stunning full-scale open world city, a feat only made possible through the power of an all-new game engine. Witness the chaos of the French Revolution firsthand and become immersed in the realistic, systemic crowds of up to 5,000 AI-driven characters.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue (Available for PS3 and Xbox 360) North America, 18th century. Amid the chaos and violence of the French and Indian War, Shay Patrick Cormac, a fearless young member of the Assassin Brotherhood, undergoes a dark transformation that will forever shape the future of the colonies. After a dangerous mission goes tragically wrong, Shay turns his back on the Assassins who, in response, attempt to end his life. Cast aside by those he once called brothers, Shay sets out on a mission to wipe out all who turned against him and to ultimately become the most feared Assassin hunter in history.

I’m not sure how Ubisoft is able to churn these Assassin’s games out, but as long as they can keep the story interesting while not duplicating efforts I’m all for it. Rogue seems like a really cool concept and change of pace for long time fans of the franchise. Key features for this game includes:

  • Become the Ultimate Assassin Hunter. Experience the Assassin’s Creed universe from the perspective of a Templar.
  • Slowly Descend Into Darkness. Witness Shay’s transformation from an adventurous Assassin to a grim and committed Templar willing to hunt down his former brothers.
  • New and Improved Naval Gameplay. Cast off in your ship, the Morrigan, and fight your way through the icy seas of the North Atlantic and the narrow waters of America’s river valleys.
  • Vast and Diverse Open World to Explore. Shay’s story will allow you to explore three unique environments: the arctic North Atlantic, American River Valley, and New York City

Halo: The Master Chief Collection (Available for XBox One) For the first time ever, The Master Chief’s entire story is on one console. Featuring a re-mastered Halo 2: Anniversary, along with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4, new digital series, Halo: Nightfall, and access to the Halo 5: Guardians Beta, this is the definitive Halo experience.

One of the best reasons to own a Xbox One. The fact that these next gen consoles don’t allow backwards compatibility is bonkers to me. But to have all of the Halo games on one system is a great excuse to relive all of the games’ again on one platform. Key features here includes:
  • The Complete Master Chief Story – Honoring the iconic hero and his epic journey, The Master Chief’s entire story is brought together as The Master Chief Collection. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4 are all included with Xbox One visual fidelity, 60fps, a total of 45 campaign missions plus more than 100 multiplayer (including the original Halo Combat Evolved maps) and Spartan Ops maps. Along with new prologue and epilogue cut scenes foreshadowing Halo 5: Guardians, this is the collection Halo fans have been waiting for, all on Xbox One.
  • Halo 2: Anniversary – Celebrating the 10 year Anniversary, the iconic fan favorite returns. Featuring a fully re-mastered campaign with “Classic Mode” allowing you to instantly switch between the re-mastered game and the original game from 2004. Uncover new Halo 5: Guardians story elements in hidden terminal videos and utilize all new skulls to experience the campaign in a whole new way. Including 23 original multiplayer maps just as fans remember them, plus 6 completely re-imagined maps. Play the game that defined online multiplayer on consoles and get ready for the next Halo chapter.
  • Master Menu – Seamlessly navigate The Master Chief’s story using the all-new Master Menu. Play all four completely unlocked campaigns, beginning to end, or jump around as you choose. Enjoy cross title themed campaign playlists created by the games’ designers for new fun and challenging experiences. Easily find and play your favorite multiplayer game types from over 100 multiplayer and Spartan Ops maps. It’s everything Halo, on your terms, simplified.
  • New Halo: Nightfall Live Action Digital Series – A strange and treacherous world exposes elite UNSC operatives to a much deeper danger in this live action series from 343 Industries and Scott Free Productions. Executive-produced by Ridley Scott and Scott Free TV President, David Zucker and directed by Sergio Mimica-Gezzan (“Battlestar Galactica” “Pillars of the Earth,” “Heroes”), Halo: Nightfall is an exciting new story for Halo fans and fresh audiences alike.
  • Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer Beta – Be among the first to experience a new generation of Halo multiplayer in the Halo 5: Guardians Beta. Gear up for the Guardians beta by unlocking exclusive content in The Master Chief Collection and Halo: Nightfall. These exclusive items will carry over into Halo 5: Guardians.

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (Available for PS3, PS4, Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, and 3DS) The best-selling LEGO Batman videogame franchise returns in an out-of-this-world, action-packed adventure! In LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, the Caped Crusader joins forces with the super heroes of the DC Comics universe and blasts off to outer space to stop the evil Brainiac from destroying Earth. Using the power of the Lantern Rings, Brainiac shrinks worlds to add to his twisted collection of miniature cities from across the universe. Now the greatest super heroes and the most cunning villains must unite and journey to different Lantern Worlds to collect the Lantern Rings and stop Brainiac before it’s too late.

The only LEGO game I’ve ever played was one of the first when it released on the PC back in the ’90s. It always kept freezing and perhaps turned me off from the game franchise. I’m sure we are far away from the days when such things happen, and this franchise seems successful enough to give it a whirl. Key features included are:

  • Exciting space combat
  • Robust roster of DC Comics heroes and villains
  • Unique storyline with new plots and twists
  • Challenging Bat Computer and virtual reality content
  • Bat-tastic Gadget Wheel
  • Variety of iconic locales
