Now Available to Own: Hitman: Agent 47, Ray Donovan, Shameless, and More
Brace your bank accounts, it’s time to see what’s Now Available to Own for the week of December 29, 2015. Every Tuesday we run down new movie and television releases that you can enjoy in the comfort of your own home, as well as some slick deals that can help save you some coin. New on shelves this week are Hitman: Agent 47, Ray Donovan, Shameless, and more.
Movies on Blu-ray
Hitman: Agent 47 (Aleksander Bach) Rated R [96 min] – An assassin teams up with a woman to help her find her father and uncover the mysteries of her ancestry. Starring Rupert Friend, Hannah Ware, Zachary Quinto, and Ciarán Hinds
Video game movies have never had a good track record, which is strange because these days most games are basically long, interactive films. As far as Hitman: Agent 47 is concerned, we can throw it on top of the pile of other disregarded adaptations. The signature action of the game is shot frantically close and practically robotic in the movie. Nothing feels organic, with every beat of the film stiffer than a 60-year-old man on a good day using Viagra. The characters are flat and everything is taken so seriously that there’s little personality to continue the franchise. I only gained a screener of the film, so I did not see any of the special features, which I can assume are trying to make up for the film since there are so many extras.
Special features include:
- Deleted Scenes
- The Hit Counter
- Re-Imagining Hitman
- Ultimate Action: Staging the Fights
- Hitman: Agent 47 Comic
- Making of the Comic Book
- Promotional Featurettes
- Gallery
- Poster Gallery
- Theatrical Trailers
Heist (Scott Mann) Rated R [93 min] – A father is without the means to pay for his daughter’s medical treatment. As a last resort, he partners with a greedy co-worker to rob a casino. When things go awry they’re forced to hijack a city bus. Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Dave Bautista, and Robert De Niro
There are so many likable actors in Heist that it’s hard to believe the end result could be so poor. Borrowing elements of Speed and unjustly servicing them, this film is a perfect example of an eye-rolling experience. It wants to be a high stakes thriller without the thrills. We’ve seen it all before. The little charisma the cast musters up can hardly penetrate the low level dialogue and pedestrian, paint-by-numbers plot. Even the cast interviews are empty.
Special features include:
- Commentary with Director Scott Mann, Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Writer Max S. Adams
- Cast and Crew Interviews
- “The Making of Heist” Featurette
- Deleted/Extended Scenes
Television Series
Shameless: The Complete Fifth Season (Paul Abbott) An alcoholic man lives in a perpetual stupor while his six children with whom he lives cope as best they can. Starring William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum, Justin Chatwin, Shanola Hampton, Emma Kenney, Jeremy Allen White, Ethan Cutkosky, Steve Howey, Shanola Hampton, and Cameron Monaghan
After five seasons of debauchery and degrading hijinks, the Gallagher family has still managed to come out on top – to themselves at least. The series continues its strong and sometimes dark push in showcasing a family that keeps itself afloat by any means necessary. But that’s kind of the problem as we head into the sixth season next month. The show is becoming a little stale. As much as the family has grown on us over the years, Shameless takes the long road to encourage character growth. The extra content isn’t much to get excited about.
Special features include:
- Two All-New Featurettes:
- shameless sex love
- Gentrify This!!!
- Commentary on Episode 7: “Tell Me You F**king Need Me”
- Unaired Scenes
Additional Releases this Week
- Bone Tomahawk

Now Available to Own: Ex Machina, It Follows, Adventure Time, and More
Brace your bank accounts, it’s time to see what’s Now Available to Own for the week of July 14, 2015. Every Tuesday we run down new movie, television, and video game releases that you can enjoy in the comfort of your own home, as well as some slick deals that can save you some coin. New on shelves this week are Ex Machina, It Follows, The Longest Ride, Adventure Time, and more.
Movies on Blu-ray
Ex Machina (Alex Garland) Rated R [108 min] – A young programmer is selected to participate in a breakthrough experiment in artificial intelligence by evaluating the human qualities of a breathtaking female A.I. Starring Alicia Vikander, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, and Sonoya Mizuno
Easily one of the best movies of the year. Ex Machina sits with you long after the credits roll. From the performances to the story and basically everything about this movie is fantastic. If you’re looking for a movie to stimulate your mind, play with your imagination, and captivate you beyond belief, Ex Machina is your movie.
Special features included:
- “Through the Looking Glass: Creating Ex Machina” 5-Part Featurette
- SXSW Q&A with Cast and Crew
- Eight Behind-the-Scenes Vignettes
It Follows (David Robert Mitchell) Rated R [100 min] – After a young girl gets involved in a sexual confrontation, she is followed by an unknown force. Starring Maika Monroe, Keir Gilchrist, Olivia Luccardi, and Lili Sepe
Another incredible movie from earlier this year. It Follows is a tremendous genre film that is riveting, terrifying, and downright eerie. There’s an incredible sense of creativity and wonder when watching the movie because it feels as if a lot of care and planning went into the development of the story and its characters. The world and the rules Mitchell built within framework is engaging and wondrous.
Special features includes:
- Critics’ Commentary hosted by The Nerdist’s Scott Weinberg, featuring Eric D. Snider (MovieBS), Britt Hayes (Screencrush), Samuel D. Zimmerman (Shock Till You Drop), Alison Nastasi (Flavorwire) and Eric Vespe (AICN)
- A Conversation with Film Composer Disasterpeace
- Poster Art Gallery
X-Men: Days of Future Past (Rogue Cut) (Bryan Singer) Rated PG-13 [131 min] – The X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants. Starring Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult
X-Men: Days of Future Past is a pretty long movie in and of itself. I would consider this Rogue Cut a semi-director’s cut that is more for the fun of adding a different character then really helping the story. The original version is edited very cleanly without the additional content with Anna Paquin. However, there’s even more content sprinkled within that makes it fun to watch. I would prefer the theatrical cut, but the new bonus features are pretty awesome in this edition.
Special features include
- Both the Theatrical Cut of the Film and the Rogue Cut of the Film
- Commentaries
- Director Bryan Singer and Composer/Film Editor John Ottman (Rogue Cut)
- Director Bryan Singer and Producer/Writer Simon Kinberg (Theatrical Version)
- Second Screen App
- Mutant vs. Machine [A 9-part making-of documentary]
- X-Men: Unguarded
- Gallery: Storyboards, Costumes & Concept Art
- Fantastic Four Sneak Peek
- Digital HD
The Longest Ride (George Tillman Jr.) Rated PG-13 [139 min] – The lives of a young couple intertwine with a much older man as he reflects back on a lost love while he’s trapped in an automobile crash. Starring Scott Eastwood, Britt Robertson, Alan Alda, and Jack Huston
I was surprised I didn’t hate this film as much as I thought I would. For as drawn out as it The Longest Ride is, the dual story lines worked to a certain extent. I found that I cared more about the couple from the past than the present. The climax and twist felt very forced, but in the world of Nicholas Sparks it makes perfect sense.
- Deleted and Extended Scenes
- A Writer’s Journey: A Day in the Life of Nicholas Sparks
- Beyond the Ride
- Bringing it to Life
- Meet The Real Bull Riders
- Luke’s Bull Riding School
- Audio Commentary by George Tillman, Jr. and Oona Chaplin
- Gallery
The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (John Madden) Rated PG [122 min] – As the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel has only a single remaining vacancy – posing a rooming predicament for two fresh arrivals – Sonny pursues his expansionist dream of opening a second hotel. Starring Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Celia Imrie, Ronald Pickup, Diana Hardcastle, and David Strathairn
As heartfelt as The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is, the wonder and excitement gets a little lost in its sequel. The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel comes across too generic, but the cast holds it up as best as they can. Obviously, this film is definitely targeted for a specific audience, but TSBMH has its charms.
Special features include:
- Story
- Cast
- Returning to the Marigold Hotel
- Blossoming Relationships
- The Marigold Wedding
- Filming in India
- Gallery
Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 (Andy Fickman) Rated PG [94 min] – After six years of keeping our malls safe, Paul Blart has earned a well-deserved vacation. He heads to Vegas with his teenage daughter before she heads off to college. But safety never takes a holiday and when duty calls, Blart answers. Starring Kevin James, Raini Rodriguez, Eduardo Verástegui, and Daniella Alonso
I did not see this movie. And I probably, hopefully, never will.
Special features include:
- Featurettes
- Security Force: The cast of Paul Blart 2
- Back In The Saddle
- Le Reve
- No Animals Were Harmed…
- Sales Tactics With Richie Manervini
- Real Cops
- Six Deleted Scene
- Gag Reel
- Photo Gallery
TV Show Releases
Adventure Time: The Complete Fifth Season (Pendleton Ward) – A human boy named Finn and his best friend Jake, a magical, talking dog, set out on their adventures in the magical Land of Ooo. Starring Jeremy Shada, John DiMaggio, Hynden Walch, and Tom Kenny
Despite creator Pendleton Ward stepping down in the middle of this season, Adventure Time still captures the magic and fun of the Land of Ooo. For those who have not seen this series, it’s an eclectic mix of adult and childish humor for all ages to enjoy. And that’s kind of the incredible thing about Adventure Time. After five seasons, the series still runs strong with new hijinks for Finn and Jake to encounter.
Special features include:
- Adventure Time Forever Featurette
- Animatic Clips
- Special Snail Hunt
Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell (Chris ‘Casper’ Kelly and Dave Willis) Unrated [11 min] – A live-action workplace comedy about Gary, an associate demon, as he attempts to capture souls on earth in order to climb the corporate ladder of the underworld. Starring Matt Servitto, Craig Rowin, and Henry Zebrowski
As far as Adult Swim content goes, Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell is some of the strongest comedy as of late. It’s completely bizarre and inherently bonkers. This world that Kelly and Willis has created works majestically in the best, weirdest way imaginable. It’s as if Ugly Americans had a baby with Workaholics to create this wacky, live-action comedy. And those two series alone should pique your interest to digest this show. It’s short, focused, and to the point in order to get the best laughs for your time.
Special features include:
- Deleted Scenes
- Promos
- Commentaries
- Behind the Scenes
- Original Short
- Screen Tests
Little House on the Prairie (Blanche Hanalis) Rated TV-PG [60 min] – The life and adventures of the Ingalls family in the 19th century American West. Starring Melissa Gilbert, Michael Landon, Lindsay Greenbush, Sidney Greebush, Karen Grassle, and Melissa Sue Anderson
I’ll be honest, I’ve never watched an episode of Little House on the Prairie. Not that it wasn’t my era, because I enjoyed watching shows like The Munsters, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, and I Love Lucy. The blu-ray transfer of this beloved show is absolutely stunning for the age of the series. For me, the content is little to be desired, but for those who want something with wholesome values and family-oriented entertainment, LHotP holds up, even in its sixth season. A testament to television production back in the day.
Special features include:
- “The Little House Phenomenon – Part Six: “A Lasting Legacy”
Sailor Moon R: Season 2 Part 1 (Episode 47-68) (Junichi Satō, Kunihiko Ikuhara, and Takuya Igarashi) After their epic battle, the Sailor Guardians are called back to action when some new and powerful enemies appear! Ail and An are alien siblings bound to the mysterious energy-devouring Makai Tree. And the Black Moon Clan, led by Prince Demande, has the power to destroy all of future Crystal Tokyo! Things get complicated when a mysterious pink-haired girl falls from the sky, demands the Legendary Silver Crystal, and claims Mamoru for her own! Could there also be a new Sailor Guardian? Starring Keiko Han, Annelie Berg, and Michelle Ruff
It’s been a long while since I’ve seen this show, I’m not even sure I made it this far. But Sailor Moon is still pretty relevant and I’d love to revisit it some day.
Special features include:
- 96-page Full Color Booklet
- AX Cast Interviews
- Dub Recording Behind-the-Scenes
- Art Gallery
- Opening and Ending Songs
- Trailers
Powers: The Complete First Season (Brian Bendis and Charlie Huston) [60 min] – Set in a world where humans and super heroes co-exist, a homicide detective, who had his own powers taken from him, investigates crimes involving superhumans along with his partner. Starring Sharlto Copley, Susan Heyward, Noah Taylor, Eddie Izzard, Michelle Forbes, Olesya Rulin, and Logan Browning
Haven’t seen it, but have heard mixed reviews.
Special features include:
- Policing the All Powerful: Envisioning and Filming Powers
- From One Visual Medium to Another: The Art and Adaptation of Powers
- Deleted Scenes
- Outtakes
Blu-Ray Deals and Steals
- Ghostbusters 1& 2 (Limited Edition) – $39.99

- Spider-Man Trilogy – $18.49
- Fifty Shades of Grey – $17.49
- Cowboy Bebop: The Complete Series – $29.99
- Rick and Morty (Season 1) – $14.99
- Spirited Away – $19.84

Sunday Comic-Con 2015 Cosplay Photo Gallery
We finally made it. The final day of San Diego Comic-Con 2015. I hope you’ve survived the marathon of lines, panels, convention center food, celebrity sightings, big surprises, various smells, and more lines. What I’ve got for you is the last day of cosplay pics of all the wonderful, spectacular, inventive, creative, and magical people I met this Sunday. And don’t you worry, this may be the last day of SDCC, but this is not the final set of coplay pics I’ve got in the works. Stay tuned for more!
Weekend reflections:
- For those who managed to go the distance and attend all four and a half days, I applaud your energy to keep cosplaying!
- Again, Mad Max: Fury Road costumes continued to pop up, but I was surprised with the overall lack of Attack on Titan scout regiment troops.
- I’m also shocked that I only ran into one person in a Star Trek uniform. Where were all the Trekkies at? I may have not been paying attention enough, but I really didn’t see anyone in Trek garb other than the one in the gallery below.
- No love for The Fantastic Four at all either. I saw two Doctor Dooms the entire weekend.
- And where are all the Avatar/Legend of Korra fans?
- There was also a lack in Deadpools and Doctors too!
- Harley Quinn is the new Slave Leia; last year it was Daenerys Targaryen.
- I wish I encountered more mashups, but I think 2015 was the year for genderbends and crossplaying.
- I really should start watching more anime and play more video games.
- You can’t do Bane properly unless you can do the crazy eyes, as seen below.
- Cosplayers dressed as Septa Unella made the weekend for me. SHAME!

Saturday Comic-Con 2015 Cosplay Photo Gallery
Whoa, we’re half way there. Saturday marks the beginning of the end. There’s still so much to do and see, and yet you know in the back of your mind that this glorious playground of geekdom ends the following day. So I did my best to find as many unique and fun cosplayers as I could despite my busy schedule.
Two goals for the weekend were met in one day as I wanted to catch up with the Reel Guise team, who do a wonderful group cosplay of The Walking Dead, and I also wanted to stumble upon a large meetup group of a large quantity of cosplayers. #AchievementsUnlocked
Day reflections:
- I’ve never had good timing or knowledge to know when the big cosplay meetups were happening. But this time I was lucky and caught the Game of Thrones and DC Heroes and Villains meetups. I’ll be posting those pics in a separate post because I took so many
- I’m still surprised by the lack of Attack on Titan cosplayers!
- Mad props to the Reel Guise folks, their similarities to the cast of The Walking Dead are uncanny
- I’m glad I brought a notebook because there are so many first-timers who didn’t have cosplay cards
- Who knew Splatoon was popular enough that people would want to cosplay as the characters. There’s fandoms for everything. They looked good too!
- More Mad Max: Fury Road cosplays!

Preview Night and Thursday Comic-Con 2015 Cosplay Photo Gallery
This is the moment you’ve all been preparing for people. San Diego Comic-Con. The grandaddy of them all. The place for cosplayers from around the globe to show the world what they’ve got. Turn The Right Corner will be on the scene all SDCC weekend to capture images of cosplayers in their natural environment.
As I trekked out into the sea of people downtown San Diego, I noticed that there didn’t seem to be as many cosplayers out and about during Preview Night or on Thursday. I remained vigilant, and scoured inside and outside of the convention center to ensure we found the best cosplayers of the weekend. Although there were many awesome cosplayers, much of what I found related to X-Men, The Avengers, Batman and DC villains, and Star Wars. Of course, I was most happy to run into an incredible Mad Max: Fury Road family group. They were fantastic!

WonderCon 2015 Sunday Cosplay Photo Gallery [250+ Images!]
And on the third day, Easter Day, WonderCon cosplayers did not rest. They were not finished with their work as one final day of the con was left to explore and enjoy. There were a good handful of creative Easter Bunny/Jesus cosplay parodies roaming the Anaheim Convention Center. And like Saturday at WonderCon, from a legion of Deadpools to Warrior Disney Princesses, Sunday was also full of really inspiring fans who put in a lot of time into their costumes.
Observations that occurred:
- I find X-23 and Psylocke to be my favorite of the X-Men cosplays I see at conventions, for reasons. Kitty Pryde is also great.
- Cosplayers who dress up as Valka from How to Train Your Dragon 2 go all out.
- Deadpool cosplayers ran amok more on Sunday compared to Saturday. I’m sure it had something to do with Easter, obviously…
- We need more Fullmetal Alchemist cosplayers. C’mon people!
- It’s always nice to see widely popular characters that no one regularly cosplays out in the wild, like Lydia from Beetlejuice or Daria.
- Until this weekend, I never noticed how many people crossplay.
- I saw two Negans running around on Sunday. Fans of The Walking Dead series are in for a treat that only comic readers have been privy too, and I predict we’ll see an influx of that character at cons soon – just like the Governor.
- It was cool to meet Robert Franzese, the real Peter Griffin.
- I’m surprised I didn’t see more appearances from Peggy Carter.
- There were very few Doctor Who fans running around, which is quite abnormal.
- And finally, I hope that after Star Wars Episode VII that people will find someone new to cosplay as other than Boba Fett.
And for those who are reading this for the first time and did not check out our cosplay photo gallery from Saturday at WonderCon 2015: you’ll notice a lot of cosplayers doing goofy poses or making funny, derp faces. I try to make it fun for cosplayers to breakaway from their action poses and bring in a humanizing factor to represent them as fans and people rather than just random people dressing up in costume. This series of abnormal poses has created some really fun character moments for both cosplayers and fans alike. I hope you enjoy!

WonderCon 2015: Sunday Cosplay Photo Gallery [250+ Images!]
Check out our photo gallery after the break. Continue reading
WonderCon 2015 Saturday Cosplay Photo Gallery [200+ Images!]
From Attack on Titan flash mobs to wild Daleks running around the Anaheim Convention Center, cosplayers were out in full force at this year’s WonderCon. Saturday was definitely the busiest day of the con, perfect for cosplay connoisseurs to strut their stuff. Comic-Con may be the mecca for cosplayers to showoff their creativity, but don’t count out WonderCon. There were a ton of amazing cosplayers this year that were not just creative, but pretty high quality too.
Observations that occurred:
- Her character was only announced earlier this year and already Spider-Gwen has become a widely popular character
- There were a lot fewer Attack on Titan fans in Scout Regiment garb than I am using to seeing at cons
- However, Kill la Kill has definitely blown up over the past year
- Although I didn’t get any pics of them, there were quite a lot of Korras I saw running around in the distance
- Game of Thrones and DC Comics’ characters were the most seen on Saturday, enough so that that they formed their own gatherings in the fountain plaza
- Big Hero 6, especially Honey Lemon, has also become a very beloved character to cosplay
- Aside from the Griff Tanen, I was surprised by the lack of Back to the Future cosplayer as it’s 2015
- Elsa from Frozen has become the new Slave Leia
- I didn’t see any Trekkies?
- The Walking Dead cosplayers from Reel Guise resemble their actor counterparts too eerily close. You might recall seeing the Carol on Talking Dead if you watch it
- And of course the Deadpools were Deadpooling
And from the images below, you’ll notice that some cosplayers are acting out of character. That’s because, either last year or the year before, I figured that as much fun as people have creating their outfits and becoming the characters they are also fans too. So to humanize the whole culture of cosplay I’ve been asking them to pose out of character in either wacky poses or making silly derp faces. This series of abnormal poses has created some really fun character moments for both cosplayers and fans alike.
