Disney Delivers a First Look at ‘Frozen Fever’ with Directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee

Frozen Fever First Look Disney

The new short film, Frozen Fever, will be playing in front of the live-action Cinderelle on March 13, but its directors’ Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee have brought us our first look in a new teaser. Audiences will get the chance to return to Arendale to help celebrate Anna’s birthday, but not without its complications of course. And that problem happens to be that Queen Elsa (Idina Menzel) has a cold, because FROZEN FEVER, get it!? Check out the teaser after the break.

As much as I disliked Frozen, I am strangely intrigued as to what the gang is all up to. I think there is something in this world Disney created that has a lot of potential, but the full-length feature didn’t do it for me. My guess is that it’s because there is a lot of interesting character dynamics that only scratched the surface, and this short could help build on them. Sadly, that’s what the movie should have accomplished. But I digress.

However, I did enjoy the songs, sans the literal troll song and Olaf’s (Josh Gad) stupid filler song. And to fans’ delight, the duo of Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez are back with an all-new original song. Lord help us if it becomes as big of a hit as “Let it Go.” Parents everywhere have not been the same since.

What makes Disney‘s and Pixar‘s shorts enjoyable are that they make for great, lighthearted appetizers. All of the Toy Story shorts and Tangled Ever After are fantastic examples of how the studios can bring us back into these known worlds and treat us to a precise and focused little narrative. There’s no complexities or an overbearing conflict, just a simple, fun romp in familiar territory that will hopefully lift our spirits.

Here’s a brief synopsis for Frozen Fever ala Walt Disney Studios:

“In ‘Frozen Fever,’ it’s Anna’s birthday and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but when Elsa catches a cold, her powers may put more than just the party at risk.”

Directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, Frozen Fever stars the voices of Kristen Bell as Anna, Indina Menzel as Elsa, Jonathan Groff as Kristoff, and Josh Gad as Olaf. This little short will be played in front of the live-action Cinderella, directed by Kenneth Branagh, on March 13, 2015.
