Kung Fury Movie

Kung Fury (David Sandberg) Unrated [31 min] – In 1985, Kung Fury, the toughest martial artist cop in Miami, goes back in time to kill the worst criminal of all time – kung fuhrer Hitler. Starring David Sandberg, Jorma Taccone, and Steven Chew

Everything about David Sandberg’s crowdfunded project is simply magical. The delightful insanity of Kung Fury makes this project worth every penny donated. Tremendous love and support was put into the production of this fantastical ode to martial arts and police action films of the ’80s. Kung Fury finds the perfect combo of the two, delivering fun action, the cheesiest one-liners, and an awesome ’80s synth score.

Chasing Life Season 2

Chasing Life Season 2 (Susanna Fogel, Joni Lefkowitz, and Ricardo Álvarez Canales) [42 min] – Follows a young woman’s life after she is diagnosed with cancer. Starring Italia Ricci, Mary Page Keller, Richard Brancatisano, Haley Ramm, Aisha Dee, Scott Michael Foster, Rebecca Schull, Jessica Meraz, and Steven Weber

Although I haven’t indulged in the second season of Chasing Life, I rather enjoyed the first. All of the characters are pretty well written, strong, and well-acted by a group of young, talented actors. This is the final season since ABC Family pulled the plug earlier this year. From what I’ve been told, they do leave the series nicely wrapped up for those like myself who desire closure.

August: Osage County Meryl Streep

Source: AwardsWatch

August: Osage County (John Wells) A look at the lives of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose paths have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Oklahoma house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them. Starring Meryl Streep, Dermot Mulroney, Julia Roberts, Abigail Breslin, Juliette Lewis, Sam Shepard,  Julianne Nicholson,  Margo Martindale, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Chris Cooper

For me, August: Osage County is a solid movie that only needs to be seen once. The performances from the spectacularly cast bunch are a treat as they each have their own moment to shine, especially Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep of course. But the rest of the family involved all have their own place and purpose. It’s a well-rounded film that doesn’t completely wow, but overall it’s not a bad sit if

D23 Expo 2015 Cosplay Outtakes Photo Gallery

Our D23 Expo 2015 cosplay photo gallery from Saturday presented cosplayers from all around strut their stuff as their favorite Disney/Star Wars/Marvel/Pixar characters. Now see them all let loose and show off their best silly faces or poses. Cosplayers posing In-character make for some really awesome shots, but I find the magic really happens when they act less serious and play toward their own personalities as the people behind the costumes.

I hope you enjoy these funny cosplay outtakes. Credits are at the bottom of the post below the gallery.

D23 Expo 2015 Cosplay Photo Gallery

D23 Expo 2015 has come and gone. Some major announcements from Lucasfilm, Pixar, Walt Disney Studios, Walt Disney Animation Studios, and Marvel Studios were made and the attendance was fairly high for being only the fourth D23 Expo put on by the House of Mouse. Although there was a lot of traffic and more to see and do this year, I was overwhelmed with how few cosplayers there were. But I didn’t let that discourage me. I sought out the best and most creative for you fine folk to share with you today.

A lot has changed at the Walt Disney Company since the last D23 Expo in 2013. The Lucasfilm acquisition was less than a year old, Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe had just kicked off with Iron Man 3, and Avengers: Age of Ultron was just announced at San Diego Comic-Con. Since then we’ve had a new live action Cinderella movie; only one new Pixar film (Inside Out); Frozen became a worldwide phenomenon; a talking raccoon and a sentient tree stole the hearts of millions; and a new Star Wars trilogy was announced along with various one-off films in-between the trilogy entries. With all this in mind, I expected a lot of fun, creative cosplayers to be out and about. Here are some of my reflections:

  • The lighting was super poor all throughout the showroom floor
  • It was super hot and I give huge props to cosplayers who wore makeup and didn’t melt
  • Inside Out was definitely the most popular of the weekend
  • The Little Mermaid seems to be every cosplayers go-to Disney Princess
  • With Snow White, Cinderella, and Aurora tied for second
  • Belle, Rapnuzel, and Jasmine close in tied for third
  • Ursula is the clear Disney Princess Villain cosplayers love the most
  • Where were all the mashups? Now that we have all these big properties together, I expected more!
  • There was some love for Big Hero 6, but little love for Wreck-It Ralph
  • That Sergeant Calhoun cosplay tho
  • I had no idea Princess Parties were a real thing until this weekend
  • I was surprised by the lack of Marvel/Star Wars cosplayers; I guess they all got their fill at Comic-Con
  • And I’m happy to see Zootopia already has one fan already

Funny Comic-Con 2015 Cosplay Outtakes [Photo Gallery]

Just when you thought enough was enough, I’ve got a special Comic-Con 2015 cosplay outtakes photo gallery I know you will enjoy. While many photographers at SDCC prefer cosplayers to do action poses or some kind of stance in character, I like to bring a little more excitement into the mix by taking them out of character. And as much as their wonderful costumes speak to each individual’s own personality and tastes, my idea behind asking cosplayers to make a funny face or to do a silly pose is to bring a little more human element to their characters.

It’s also about letting cosplayers have more fun in their day and not having to do the same old pose. I’m not sure how it actually started, but I noticed when I began asking this of cosplayers that they were more than happy to oblige. I definitely enjoy seeing what everyone can come up with on the fly because each time is different. Certain characters such as the Survey Corps from Attack on Titan only have a few poses. Do you want to see Batman doing the same grim face or have him sticking his tongue out? Cinderella giving a stink face? No problem. Or how about Captain American taking a selfie? Asking cosplayers to do something out of the ordinary really opens the doors to their own creativity.

And that’s just my two cents. TL;DR? I want to give cosplayers the opportunity to be themselves and to have fun. That’s the point of this crazy madness of pop culture conventions, right? Make the fandom your own and have a blast doing it. I hope you enjoy the cosplay outtakes!

Saturday Comic-Con 2015 Cosplay Photo Gallery

Whoa, we’re half way there. Saturday marks the beginning of the end. There’s still so much to do and see, and yet you know in the back of your mind that this glorious playground of geekdom ends the following day. So I did my best to find as many unique and fun cosplayers as I could despite my busy schedule.

Two goals for the weekend were met in one day as I wanted to catch up with the Reel Guise team, who do a wonderful group cosplay of The Walking Dead, and I also wanted to stumble upon a large meetup group of a large quantity of cosplayers. #AchievementsUnlocked

Day reflections:

  • I’ve never had good timing or knowledge to know when the big cosplay meetups were happening. But this time I was lucky and caught the Game of Thrones and DC Heroes and Villains meetups. I’ll be posting those pics in a separate post because I took so many
  • I’m still surprised by the lack of Attack on Titan cosplayers!
  • Mad props to the Reel Guise folks, their similarities to the cast of The Walking Dead are uncanny
  • I’m glad I brought a notebook because there are so many first-timers who didn’t have cosplay cards
  • Who knew Splatoon was popular enough that people would want to cosplay as the characters. There’s fandoms for everything. They looked good too!
  • More Mad Max: Fury Road cosplays!
