Sometimes you watch a movie trailer and you just can’t even. The latest reveal for the upcoming disaster flick, San Andreas, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, has my eyes rolling faster than Snoop Dogg on 4/20. Since the first trailer had just one line of dialogue given by Paul Giamatti, this new footage brings a little more context as to what we can expect from the film, which looks pretty much like your standard cataclysmic event movie. Check out the trailer for San Andreas as well as screenshots from the film after the break.
Although this catastrophic incident is less threatening to life than the extinction of the Earth, such as The Day After Tomorrow or 2012, San Andreas does its best to enter the disaster film d*ck measuring contest to see who can create the most realistic CGI destruction effects. Can we be creative next time we try to blow up the Earth?
I found the first trailer for San Andreas to be amusing simply based on its use of the song “California Dreamin'” by The Mamas And The Papas. It’s used very well in a tongue in cheek way that prepares you for the ridiculousness that is to come; only this time by the hulking mass that is The Rock. We’ve seen a limo driver and various scientists try to save humanity from annihilation, so how about a buff rescue ranger?
Other than that, this trailer pretty much gives us nothing than the fact that The Rock is the father of Alexandra Daddario with her piercing blue-eyes among other assets. We can only assume that Carla Gugino is his ex-wife and mother to Daddario and Giamatti is there just to present the gravity of how big the fallout could be.
Are we done with disaster movies yet? What’s left to destroy?
