NBC Offers a First Look at 'Heroes Reborn' and the Return of HRG

When I first learned that NBC would be reviving their superhero series Heroes, which that had a strong start and the limpest of exits, I let out a snortle and went back to business as usual. But a lot has changed in the realm of superheroes in pop culture since 2010 when Heroes debuted its final episode without receiving a proper final series. There now have been two Avengers movies from Marvel and DC is setting up a Justice League movie. Since NBC Universal doesn’t own the rights to any DC or Marvel characters, why not revive a property that was kinda hot back in its heyday? So here we have our first look at Heroes Reborn, a 13-episode “event series” that aims to rekindle that lost spark of what was once a promising show.

Now Heroes Reborn is not a reboot as much as the title suggests. Three original cast members return, including Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura, Jack Coleman as Noah Bennet aka the Man in the Horn-Rimmed Glasses (HRG), and Jimmy Jean-Louis returns as René aka The Haitian. They will meet a slew of new characters including Zachary Levi as Luke Collins and Kiki Sukezane as Miko Otomo. Their powers have not yet been revealed, if they even have any, but these first images prove that Heroes Reborn is actually happening. This is a real thing that will appear on your television set later this year. Can you believe it yet?

And if you’re wondering who the rest of the cast is, here’s the official description of Heroes: Reborn, courtesy of NBC:

The saga behind the 2006 breakout series “Heroes” will continue this fall as creator Tim Kring returns to the fold and develops new layers to his original superhero concept.

This highly anticipated 13-episode event series will reconnect with the basic elements of the show’s first season, where ordinary people were waking up to the fact that they had extraordinary abilities.

Original cast member Jack Coleman will reprise his role as H.R.G., Jimmy Jean-Louis returns as The Haitian, and Masi Oka will be back as Hiro Nakamura. Also joining the cast are Zachary Levi (of NBC’s “Chuck” and the Marvel franchise “Thor”), Ryan Guzman (“The Boy Next Door”), Robbie Kay (“Once Upon a Time”), Danika Yarosh (“Shameless”), Judith Shekoni (“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2″), Kiki Sukezane (“Death Yankee 3″), Henry Zebrowski (NBC’s “A to Z”) and Gatlin Green (“Criminal Minds”).

With the return of “Heroes Reborn,” NBC will launch a digital series prior to the premiere that will introduce new characters and storylines that will take the “Heroes” phenomenon to new places. NBC’s digital platforms, as well as Hulu and video-on-demand, will debut the online prequel to the series prior to the show’s premiere.

Tim Kring, Peter Elkoff and James Middleton will serve as executive producers.

Produced by Imperative Entertainment, in association with Universal Television, “Heroes Reborn” will air in fall 2015 on NBC.
