Jeff Goldblum Joins Cast of JURASSIC WORLD 2

LIFE. HAS. FOUND. A. WAY. Jeff Goldblum has been confirmed to return as Dr. Ian Malcolm in the upcoming, untitled sequel Jurassic World 2, directed by J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls). We have not seen Mr. Malcolm after he saved San Diego from a Tyrannosaurus Rex in The Lost World: Jurassic Park. He was only briefly mentioned by name in Jurassic World as an author of a book.

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard have both signed on for the sequel, which is currently filming. The cast will also comprise of B.D. Wong, Justice Smith, James Cromwell and Toby Jones. Colin Trevorrow, who directed and had a hand in writing Jurassic World, is working with his writing partner Derek Connolly to helm the screenplay of the follow up movie. Details on the plot are unknown, but there is believed to be dinosaurs involved. Trevorrow also serves as executive producer along with Steven Spielberg. Frank Marshall, Pat Crowley, Belén Atienza are the film’s producers.

Introduced in Jurassic Park, Dr. Ian Malcolm is a mathemetician who specialized in a sect of mathematics known as “Chaos Theory.” He was joined by Paleobotanist Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and Paleontologist Alan Grant (Sam Niell) to provide consultancy before the park could open. We have not seen Grant or Sattler since Jurassic World III.

We last saw Mr. Goldblum in the Independence Day: Resurgence, which only raked in $103 million domestically on a $165 million production budget. On the other side of the coin, Jurassic World wound up to be one of the greatest blockbusters in cinema, bringing in a massive $1.6 billion worldwide on a $150 million budget. Goldblum can next be seen in Thor: Ragnarok as the Grandmaster, in theaters November 3, 2017.

/Film was able to get in touch with producer Frank Marshall to get an exclusive comment:

“I’m excited to have him back. The world has changed a lot since Ian Malcolm went to Jurassic Park and we need his point of view now more than ever. He told us about chaos theory, he was right.”
