The sequel to the critically-acclaimed family comedy Paddington finds the lovable bear mixed into a new mess of trouble in the first trailer for Paddington 2. After escaping the taxidermist clutches of Nicole Kidman in the first film, Paddington must now face the likes of Hugh Grant in order to uncover the mystery of a stolen book.
While the first Paddington only managed to rake in $76 million domestically back in 2015, the film earned itself almost unanimous critical praise, still currently at 98% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s a highly underseen film that has more charm in its little pinky than most family films have ever hoped to achieve. You can currently stream Paddington on Netflix. There’s such a gentle innocence and wit behind the movie that it plays well for all ages to enjoy.
Although January is typically seen unfavorable due to awards season taking the spotlight, the film’s release date provides an opportunity for audiences to see something more sweet and wholesome than most of the films being thrown into this no man’s land of a month. If it is as wildly touching and fun as the first Paddington, then it will be the shining light to kick off 2018.
