Box Office Battlefield: Halloween 2, Taking Woodstock, and The Final Destination

battle field

It’s Friday again and you know what that means……Movies Movies Movies…… Seems like October has come early with the horror. For the weekend of August 28, 2009, here is what’s coming out:

Halloween II (Scout Taylor-Compton, Tyler Mane, Malcolm McDowell) Rob Zombie’s reinvention of a horror classic. Not only is this his sequel to his first remake of the original Halloween, but this is Zombie’s own story. Michael Myers is back and is wanting his mother’s love. Laurie Strode is having trouble coming to terms with being of Myers blood. What kind of unholy family reunion will take place this weekend. See this film.

The Final Destination (Nick Zano, Krista Allen, Andrew Fiscella) Yet another Destination film to add to the franchise. This one is based off a horrible accident at a race track that some kid sees the end result early and escapes death. Of course, like all the others, death comes back for revenge. This one looks better than the third, but not as good as the first two. This one is in 3-D, which might be worth the trip, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Skip it.

Taking Woodstock (Demetri Martin, Emile Hirsch, Eugene Levy) This little indie film looks interesting. It could be either a flop or a decent flick. I’d have to say it’s nothing too special, but could be a change from all the horror this weekend. This is basically the story of how the original Woodstock was formed and the chaos that ensued. I have no idea how historically accurate it is, but doesn’t look like it could be too far off. See it/Rent it.

100 Years of Movie Special Effects

This little video is pretty cool, but I could do without the Blue Man Group music. It takes you all the way back to the year 1900 all the way up to the present. Its amazing to think of how things have changed in Hollywood in terms of what we use for special effects these days.

The Descent: Part 2 Official Trailer

Thanks to IGN.com they have allowed us to view the new trailer for The Descent: Part II. I lovedddd the first one because it was so dark, scary, and you didn’t know what was coming. This one looks decent, but unfortunately you know what’s already down the cave. Hopefully they’ll up the ante to make this one just as thrilling as the last. They’ll have to pull some crazy stuff to get the ball rolling, but I believe it has potential.

Rob Zombie? The Blob? Remake?

blob

Ohhhh Robert Zombie, what would we do without your horror remakes? Variety is reporting that there is funding for an R-rated $30 million dollar remake of the classic  The Blob movie. They also state that Mr. Zombie will complete the script while touring this fall promoting his new CD. Their is belief that if the right deals can be made, production can start in the Spring.

The original film tells the story of people of a small town who refuse to listen to a group of teenagers who witnessed a mysterious creature from another planet land on earth. The ever-growing giant blob of jelly absorbs the humans it contacts and destroys the town.

Will this work for modern day audiences? It is a little far fetched for current horror, but hey, what hasn’t Hollywood remade these days, especially in the horror genre. Let’s see what happens

Get Buck With This Bunny

big buck bunny

This is a cool little short animated film created by the Blender Institute. Big Buck Bunny takes a look at the life of a giant white rabbit with a big heart. When three little rodents terrorize him, the rabbit gets his revenge. It is very entertaining and a very impressive short film. The animation is done especially well. Also, wait after the credits for a little something extra. You can go to bigbugbunny.org for more information.

Box Office Battlefield: ‘Post Grad’ and ‘Inglorious Basterds’

battle field

Here is your weekend update with all the few new movies coming to theaters for the weekend of August 21, 2009:

Inglorious Basterds (Brad Pitt, Diane Kruger, Eli Roth) This is a must see. Who wouldn’t want to see Brad Pitt and a bunch of angry Jewish Americans invade Nazi France and whoop some ass? This is an action packed dialogue stricken Tarantino movie. It has everything you could want from Tarantino and more. See this film

Post Grad (Alexis Bledel, Michael Keaton, Carol Burnett) A cute little story that reminds me of my struggles through job searching. If you just graduated college and struggling to find a job, this movie is for you. A cute little romantic comedy that you could enjoy, especially if you’re not into the Nazi thing. This may not appeal to everyone’s satisfactory for going out to enjoying a movie. Rent It

I Have Completed My Goal! 100 Movies 1 Summer!

movies

So I had this goal for the Summer to build my film palette up. The g0al was to watch 100 movies that I have never seen before by the end of the Summer. Well, the final day of Summer has come and today I finished my goal with my 100th film! That makes 100 films in 93 days or 13 weeks. WOO! That’s a lot of movies. Averages out to 7.7 movies a week. I put no bias into what movies I decided to watch. I’ve seen some pretttttty bad movies and some really good movies and everywhere inbetween. This experiment was really fun and would love to try it again next year.

The entire list of films I saw after the jump:

It has come. The Day is here! Sony will release the Playstation 3 Slim this September!!!! It will have all the same features as the original but with 120 gigs and ONLY A MERE $300!!!!!! This is amazing and will be looking forward to finally owning a PS3; when I get a job……… This is a great day in videogame news! Microsoft will have a little competition now, especially with the X-Box 360 pro only being a 60 gig model, no blu-ray capability, and still $300. Looks like they should drop their price so I can own a X-Box 360 also………please. Although I really wouldn’t want to face the red ring of death.

Diora Baird Auditions for Thor

diora_baird

Well Ms. Baird tweeted today that she auditioned for Thor. Cool? Maybe? She isn’t terrrrible, but would she play a vital role? Who Knows. That would be a pretty chesty role for the new Marvel film. Here’s her tweet:

Had an audition for the movie Thor today. Character description was ‘pretty, but sturdy with muscle’. Damn type casting.
