This new horror movie, ‘The Stepfather,’ looks kind of promising, but yet again another horror remake from 1987. I like Dylan Walsh (Nip/Tuck) and this movie has good thriller elements, but it’s nothing special. This trailer reminds me of hints of ‘The Uninvited’ meets ‘Disturbia.’ The title itself is self-explanatory of the plot, family broken up, stepfather is introduced, and things go wrong. I think this just proves that divorce can turn out to be deathly wrong (sorry)………This movie comes out October 16, the same weekend as ‘Where the Wild Things Are.’ I think someone is not going to make that much money and I’m not talking about WTWTA.

Eli Roth creates a Funhouse?
So Eli Roth is in talks of remaking the Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ’74) The Funhouse. I’m kind of excited about this because I enjoy Eli Roth’s horror work (Hostel 1&2, Cabin Fever). Roth is also in talks of possibly doing the Thanksgiving and Endangered Species movies from that short faux trailers from the Grindhouse movie. I think Roth could make this into a fun horror that could bring in a few good fans of the genre. We’ll just have to wait and see………

Saw VI is ‘mind-numblingly complex’

According to the director Kevin Greutert updates that post-production and editing has become a very strenuous task. Bloody-Disgusting had the interview:
“”I made Andrew take today off. He looks fine, but he can’t be; the guy has been continually focused on editing this movie for months now, and it’s mind-numbingly complex, and it’s not easy being face to face all day and night with people as unhappy as the folks who live in Jigsaw’s World. Andrew has focused on the last ten minutes of the film for over a week now, and to put it subtly, it’s noisy. Strangers from other companies along the hallway have been coming up to me and asking, “What the hell is going on in there?” By the end of the night my mind is screaming, and I’m sure Andrew’s is as well.
Yesterday we passed a major turning point, and that’s the real reason we’re taking the day off. My confidence went through the roof when we sat and watched our latest work last night, and I couldn’t sleep for a new reason: I can’t wait for people to see the movie. I think it stands shoulder to shoulder with the best of the SAWs, and while I’m the least objective person imaginable when it comes to this, I think we’ve all done something really special.
The next step is showing it to the producers. This is a process that strikes terror in the heart of many directors, and I’m no exception. But if I’m correct, they’re going to be very pleased indeed…”
Saw 8 & 9?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
NO NO NO NO NO Saw 8 and 9?
Ok, although I love the Saw franchise as much as the next horror film lover, this has just got to stop. Jigsaw/John Kramer is a creative and calculating villain in these movies and has been one of the greatest faces of horror and he has only been around for almost five years. Back when the fourth film was done, I was led to believe that there would only be six. I laughed at this when I first heard about it, but I waited to see what would happen. The story itself is ingenious, new and inventive, but getting very stale; especially with the 5th film. And now reports of Saw 8 & 9 with not even the 7th one produced yet, what?
