Recently, it has been speculated that the next installment of Rocksteady Studios’ Batman series would be Batman: Arkham Origins. Only half of that rumor is correct. The title of the game is accurate, but it will not be backed by Rocksteady. The studio that worked on Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition, Warner Bros. Games Montreal, will pick up where Rocksteady Studios left off. Find out what they have in store after the break.
What’s most interesting to come out of this announcement is the fact that the game title is quite misleading. Although it will be called Arkham Origins, the game will neither be about the beginning of Arkham Asylum or Batman’s origins. The main conflict behind Arkham Origins will see Batman up against eight of the most feared assassins’ from his universe such as Deathestroke. They’ve come together for one night, Christmas Eve, to try and kill Batman.

Game Informer got the first hand scoop documenting an interview with Warner Bros. Game Montreal. They touch on the story, the gravity of the franchise that has been bestowed upon them, and how they plan to tackle the giant. With all of the weight on their shoulders, it will be interesting to see how the studio will add their own flare while maintaining the integrity of the franchise or destroying what has already been created.
A developer in the video states that this will be the first Arkham game to step foot in the streets of Gotham City, which brings a lot of new ideas to the plate. Despite the story taking place on Christmas Eve, I hope this game adds civilians and the Gotham Police out and about on the streets. I think that would add an immense level of threat that Batman could face if thugs could take hostages willy nilly.
Gamers rescued hostages slightly in Arkham City, but the situations were always set up and in a dark alley, thugs never grabbed them as shields from off the street. Since Batman is younger, he will be a lot more spry and we could see a different, more agile set of skills that could disarm and securely free hostages without harming them.
Many fans have been in an uproar about the changing of the guard. Do you believe Warner Bros. Games Montreal has what it takes without Rocksteady Studios?
Batman: Arkham Origins will be available on October 25, 2013 for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC.
