Second ‘How To Train Your Dragon 2’ Trailer Goes to Battle (88 Screenshots)

How to Train Your Dragon 2 Movie Trailer Toothless Crushing Hiccup

If the incredible teaser trailer wasn’t enough for animation fans, the second trailer for How to Train Your Dragon 2 has been released. Solidifying the fact that this combination of vikings and dragons is one of the most fun, exciting, and emotional fantasy stories of all time, HTTYD fans are definitely in for a treat with where writer/director Dean Deblois is taking Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and Toothless. With more dragons and adventure than ever before How to Train Your Dragon 2 is definitely one of the most anticipated movies of 2014. See the new trailer after the jump along with 88 hi-res screenshots.

Honestly, all DreamWorks and 20th Century Fox had to do to convince anyone to see this movie is to release the teaser trailer. Although this new footage is a nice glimpse into the story, the teaser trailer was enough to display the amazing animation and incredible bond between Toothless and Hiccup (Jay Baruchel). For those who need a bit of action beyond the beautiful flying sequence from the teaser, this new trailer is just what the doctor ordered.

A bit of forewarning, for those not interested in spoilers, I would highly suggest you watch this trailer on mute. Right smack dab in the middle of the trailer there is a what most would consider to be a huge character reveal. Apparently there is a mystery leading up to who this mysterious dragon rider named Valka is, and the marketing team just blows the whole thing wide open. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED:

It’s funny how they don’t reveal who the main villain is or what is his main purpose in capturing the dragons. All we know is his name, Drago Bludvist, and that he is voiced by Djimon Hounsou. It’s nice to see Astrid (America Ferrera) and Hiccup’s relationship holding strong, but along with her, Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler), and Snotlout (Jonah Hill), all of the secondary characters have been put off to the side here. I’m OK with that because less is more in trailers, but hopefully that isn’t the case in the movie.

It’s been five years since Hiccup and Toothless successfully united dragons and vikings on the island of Berk. While Astrid, Snotlout and the rest of the gang are challenging each other to dragon races (the island’s new favorite contact sport), the now inseparable pair journey through the skies, charting unmapped territories and exploring new worlds. When one of their adventures leads to the discovery of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace. Now, Hiccup and Toothless must unite to stand up for what they believe while recognizing that only together do they have the power to change the future of both men and dragons.

Are you excited to revisit Berk this summer?
