Sin City‘s where you go in with your eyes open, or you don’t come out at all. Dimension Films lets the monster out in the latest trailer for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. We have ourselves a better look at the interwoven stories of the acclaimed Frank Miller adaptation. Watch the trailer after the break.
I read the graphic novels some time ago – about five years ago – and from what I recall and what was shown above, the story beats and tone are pretty similar. What we’ve seen translates fairly well to screen, much like the original Sin City had. And after Eva Green’s A+ curves were banned by the MPAA – did you notice her name was covering her boobs this time? – when her scandalous, titillating character poster appeared a few weeks ago, the sex, violence, and scheming all seem to be in their rightful places. I hate the music choice still though, which they used in the first trailer.
I’m looking forward to seeing the main story played out while two new stories featuring Jessica Alba and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have been written. I think Gordon-Levitt, Brolin, and Green will make great additions to the already star-studded cast. My one concern is the digital photography, it looks too crisp for a noir film such as this. But stylistically, the characters look great, the black and white and coloring is solid, and the new faces in the cast fit in nicely. The one thing I’m most excited for is the return of Mickey Rourke as Marv, one of the most iconic characters to come out of the mid-2000’s on film. If Eva Green plays out in A Dame to Kill For like she did in 300: Rise of an Empire, she will win 2014.
