In anticipation for their Comic-Con panel on Saturday for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Warner Bros. has released an exclusive SDCC poster. Featuring the dragon Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch) hovering over Lake-own, there is only one man standing between him and total destruction, Bard (Luke Evans). Check out the full poster after the break.
While many may be upset that the poster does not involve any hobbits or dwarves, Peter Jackson and company know that the later half of the book is strongly influenced by Bard. This poster perfectly captures the daring task to take down the dragon who is laying waste to his town.
It was only back in April when The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies was called There and Back Again. It’s interesting that they chose to change the name of the film and not even feature any armies or a depiction of the battle in the first poster, but rather feature Smaug and Bard.
Here is the official plot synopsis from Warner Bros. Pictures:
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.
Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain.
As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.
Directed by Peter Jackson, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies stars Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ian Mckellen, Orlando Bloom, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Cate Blanchett, and many more.
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is set to release in 3D, 2D, and IMAX 3D on December 17th, 2014.
