San Diego Comic-Con is here! All of the big studios, toy makers, comic distributors, and TV shows have brought some very innovative booths this year. From an animatronic Smaug to an Oculus Rift experience, exhibitors are getting more creative every year. Check out all of the best exhibitor booths that you can find inside Comic-Con after the break.
This is my third year at Comic-Con – I truly can’t believe it myself; I never thought I would ever have the chance to attend in my wildest dreams – and it always impresses me when an exhibitor can deliver something we’ve never seen before. Weta had much of the sameness, but they added a giant animatronic Smaug head that gazes down on attendees in honor of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. X-Men: Days of Future Past is already out in theaters, but 20th Century Fox wanted to give fans a Cerebro Oculus Rift experience.
Lionsgate moved out from the middle of the floor to near the back with a massive booth showcasing their upcoming features, mostly The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. Marvel Studios stood their ground in the dead center of the convention hall with their big video screen and black boxy booth. Tonight, Agents of SHIELD was on display with Agent Coulson’s car Lola – they typically rotate different props from upcoming movies on the stage.
AMC’s The Walking Dead always brings the goods. Last year they mocked up the prison and this year Terminus. Nickelodeon had a really cool art design with their abstract swirly thing hanging above their exhibitor area. In the middle, fans can record a voiceover for The Legend of Korra and listen to themselves as the characters they are seeing on screen. And on the other spectrum of animation, Adult Swim mocked up their Fun House and added a giveaway element with a giant wheel of fortune.
It’s always a pleasure to head on over to the LEGO booth to see giant replicas of pop culture characters. This year we have Spider-Man, Groot and Rocket Raccoon from Guardians of the Galaxy, Shredder from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and President Business from none other than The LEGO Movie.
A few new properties were on hand such as Outlander, Big Hero 6, and Max Steel. All pretty unique to their own universes. If you take a picture with Baymax you can get a pretty sweet plushie.
On the far west end of the convention center where all the video game exhibitors are, you can play Sunset Overdrive on Xbox One or get your hands on Nintendo’s new Super Smash Bros. for 3DS. I’m kind of shocked that Sony doesn’t have a spot on the floor this year.
And then a lot of booths stuck with what they’ve brought for the past few years, just updating the graphics, such as Image Comics, Gentle Giant, and many of the toy exhibitors.
