Since principal photography wrapped on Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice as of December 2014, we should start seeing more marketing pop up now that we’re a year from its release. And with that, director Zack Snyder has revealed the first look at Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones; Stargate: Atlantis) as Aquaman. Click the jump to see the full image of the seaman and what Snyder tagged in his message.
Zack Snyder doing what Zack Snyder does, he tweeted a somewhat cryptic photo of Jason Momoa as Aquaman, who we’ll see in the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. He’s done the same thing when first introducing the Batmobile and Ben Affleck as Batman. Donning full armor with Aquaman’s iconic trident at his side – although this has five points on it, not making it a real trident persay – Momoa has certainly fit into the grittier DC Cinematic Universe Snyder and Co. have established.
His armor is definitely not the classic orange and green scaled uniform we’re use to seeing. This is more of an original creation dreamed up by Snyder’s vision. It’s far and away unlike Wonder Women’s outfit, which at least has a red and gold design. However, they both have a very medieval look to them. Tattoed on scales look cooler than an orange bodysuit in my opinion. Here’s a larger version of the image:
Additionally, the photo has the words “Unite the Seven” written over the it; an allusion to Aquaman being King of the Seven Seas as Snyder so subtly puts it, “There is only one true King.”But how will this play out in regards to Batman V Superman? Superman and the Kryptonians did a number in the Indian Ocean, which we can all assume pissed off Aquaman. So at least we have some motive there.
With all of the other Justice League heroes appearing in Batman V Superman, how much screen time will this fully realized version of Aquaman get? Since this is a Batman and Superman movie, and not a Justice League movie, I can’t imagine much.
After Batman V Superman, we can expect to find Momoa in Justice League Part One and Justice League Part Two – set to be released in 2017 and 2019, respectively. And of course, we’ll Aquaman has his own standalone film set for release in 2018. With these four movies in tow, they would fulfill Momoa’s contract with Warner Bros.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is set for a March 25, 2016 release. Justice League Part One will release on November 10, 2017, Aquaman will have his standalone film on July 27 2018, and Justice League Part Two will come out on June 14, 2019.
