Day 3: Saturday’s Comic-Con 2015 Movie Panels

10:00am – 11:00am Let’s Create a Cartoon Series – A combination of actual show creation and an improv game with high audience participation. Experienced animation show creators including Dean Stefan (Matchbox Big Rig Buddies, Quack Pack), Rob Hoegee (Thunderbirds are Go!, Teen Titans), Holly Huckins (Rugrats, Sheriff Callie’s Wild West), John Derevlany (LEGO Legends of Chima, Endangered Species), and Craig Miller (Curious George, Beast Wars) take suggestions called out by people in the audience for a genre, a main character, other characters, and the world it takes place in. The panel will provide a take on how a show is created, all the elements you need to take into consideration, and why the idea of it being about this or that would be too expensive. Why would we like this main character? What age group is this for? And as people shout out different ideas, you will learn why a producer or studio might say no or yes to various aspects. Room 9

10:00am – 11:00am My Book Is a Movie/TV Show: Now What? – Authors discuss the process of having their book made into another medium, their involvement and/or lack thereof, and how they feel now toward the project. Do they wish they could have done something differently? Do they feel the TV/movie has benefited or hurt their book? Lauren Kate (Unforgiven), Jeff Jensen (Before Tomorrowland), Arwen Elys Dayton (Seeker), Victoria Aveyard (Red Queen), and Daniel H. 10:00am – 11:00am Comic-Con Film School 103: Working with Actors and a Crew – Day 3 of our course on microbudget moviemaking deals with how to direct actors, organize a crew, and keep them all happy without anybody making a dime. This panel presents the comic book artists, painters, illustrators, and creators in the film Temple Of Art, a documentary that asks why people risk and create in the face of failure and why you should too. Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice Comic-Con 2015 Movie Panel

10:30am – 12:00pm Warner Bros. Presentation – Keen to deliver a taste of one of next year’s most eagerly awaited pairings, director Zack Snyder and stars Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill take the main stage with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. They are joined by castmates Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Gal Gadot for a sneak peek at the 2016 action adventure that brings the Super Heroes together on the big screen for the very first time, from Warner Bros. Pictures and RatPac-Dune Entertainment. From Pan, Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlund and Peter himself, Levi Miller, together with director Joe Wright, soar into town with their high-flying adventure, coming to theaters this fall from Warner Bros. Pictures and RatPac-Dune Entertainment. 11:00am – 12:00pm Book to Screen – We’re in a heyday for science fiction and fantasy on screen, whether it’s the big screen or the small. Some of the most popular series out there take advantage of the in-depth world and character building of book series to populate their vivid worlds. Ernie Cline (author of Ready Player One, soon to be adapted for the screen by Steven Spielberg), Melissa de la Cruz (author of Witches of East End, Lifetime show by the same name), Andy Weir (author of The Martian, a Ridley Scott-directed adaptation will be released later this year), Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (as James S. A. Corey, author of Leviathan Wakes, on which the upcoming Syfy show The Expanse is based), Lev Grossman (author of The Magicians, soon to be a Syfy show), and Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings (as Christina Lauren, author of Beautiful Bastard, which has been optioned by Constantin Film) discuss how their creations are coming to life on screen. 11:00am – 12:00pm Todays Costume Designers – The Costume Designers Guild Local 892 members Soyon An (Jem and the Holograms), Ann Foley (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Kristin Burke (Conjuring), and Ivy Thaide (Kamen Rider Dragon Knight) discuss the world of costume design for television and film. 12:00pm – 1:00pm Sci-Fi/Fantasy Family Feud – Who is the most popular Doctor Who companion? How about the worst place to Hulk out in? Authors Brandon Sanderson (The Stormlight Archive series), Patrick Rothfuss (the Kingkiller Chronicles series), Ernie Cline (Armada), Naomi Novik (Uprooted), Chuck Wending (Zer0es), Leigh Bardugo (The Grisha Trilogy), and Austin Grossman (Crooked) square off in an epic game of Family Feud, answering questions posed by Heath Corson (Nerdist) about the hottest topics in geek culture. 12:00pm – 1:00pm The 10th Annual All-Star Comic Book Podcaster Panel – Get ready for a no holds barred debate and discussion of the current state of the comic book marketplace in publishing, television, and film. Like sports reporters at the World Series, these podcast hosts voice their opinions on their shows. But what happens when they face each other and may not get the last word on a subject? Panelist include Ishmael Kahn (founder of Hollywood Bollywood Global Media) and internationally acclaimed Bollywood star Pooja Batra (Virasat, Disney India’s Any Body Can Dance 2). Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Comic-Con 2015 Movie Panel

12:15pm – 1:15pm Pride and Prejudice and Zombies – Pride and Prejudice and Zombies A zombie outbreak has fallen upon the land in Jane Austen’s classic tale of the tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in 19th-century England. Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James) is a master of martial arts and weaponry, and the handsome Mr. Darcy (Sam Reilly) is a fierce zombie killer, yet the epitome of upper-class prejudice. As the zombie outbreak intensifies, they must swallow their pride and join forces on the blood-soaked battlefield. The Hateful Eight Comic-Con 2015 Movie Panel

1:30pm – 2:15pm Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight – Academy Award-winning writer/director Quentin Tarantino brings fans an exclusive look at his highly anticipated 8th film, The Hateful Eight. Followed by a Q&A session with the cast. Hall H

2:00pm – 3:00pm High Def Horror: Hammer Horror Meets Harryhausen – Warner Archive and Trailers From Hell combine forces to sneak a peek at some exciting upcoming releases that will please fans of Hammer films and the legendary Ray Harryhausen. Award-winning director Joe Dante joins Warner Archive Podcast hosts George Feltenstein, D. W. Ferranti, and Matthew Patterson to discuss such classics as The Beast from 20000 Fathoms, Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, Dracula Has Risen from the Grave, Them! and more. As an added treat, Dante will chat about the intricacies of the 1987 hit Innerspace, which Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will be releasing on Blu-ray in 2015. Crimson Peak Comic-Con 2015 Movie Panel

2:30pm – 3:30pm Legendary Pictures – Filmmakers and talent from Legendary’s upcoming Warcraft and Crimson Peak, distributed by Universal Pictures, will discuss the innovative slate and present never-before-seen material. Chris Hardwick (AMC’s Talking Dead) hosts the panel that will also include surprises from highly anticipated legendary movies, including Great Wall, Krampus, and more. Hall H

3:00pm – 4:00pm Adding Special Effects to Cosplay Pictures and Video – This panel features VFX wizards behind the new film Cosplay Dreams 3D, renowned cosplay photographers and Photoshop artists, and special guest cosplayers. Learn how, using Adobe Photoshop and After Effects, you can add realistic laser beams, fireballs, glowing magical elements, and sci-fi backgrounds that will bring your cosplay photography and videos to the next level. 5:00pm – 6:00pm Man of Action: Taking Comics from Print to Screen – Man of Action’s Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau, and Steven T. Seagle create TV shows (Ben 10, Generator Rex) and write comic books/graphic novels for the Man of Action imprint and Image Comics. Learn from the pros how to turn comics into hit television shows (Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel’s Avengers Assemble) and films (Rouleau and Seagle created the comic book team and characters for the Academy Award-winning film Big Hero 6). Man of Action is producing the feature films Officer Downe and I Kill Giants, with scripts by Casey and Kelly, respectively, based on their own graphic novels, with more in the works. Room 9

6:00pm – 7:00pm Max Brooks Zombie Revelations – You’ve seen his fascinating and entertaining panels on surviving a zombie plague, but now the screenwriter and author of the bestselling books The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z, Max Brooks, returns to provide intel and anecdotes on how to survive a Vampires vs. Zombies apocalypse! His third chapter in the new all-original comic book series Extinction Parade introduces readers into the greatest battle royal of the undead ever witnessed. Kicked off by You’re Next in 2011, this new wave of independent genre film has continued to thrive and has broken through over the past year with The Babadook and It Follows. Hosted by the US’ leading genre film festivals, we discuss this convention-defying movement with the directors, producers, writers, production companies and programmers who are progressively shaping the brave evolution of cinematic terror. 7:00pm – 8:00pm TeeFury: Shirts in the Pop-Culture Bubble – Karen Hallion (artist and illustrator), Crystal “Bamboota” Fontan (graphic designer and illustrator), Drew Wise (artist and illustrator), Dylan Hay-Chapman (graphic designer for TV and film), and John “Captain Ribman” Sprengelmeyer (award-winning illustrator/syndicated cartoonist) share their experiences as pioneers in the pop-culture shirt space and provide practical advice for independent artists. Q&A moderated by Tom Kurzanski (art director of TeeFury). Room 4

8:00pm – 9:00pm Creepy and Eerie Unleashed – A ghoulish panel of horror freaks discusses the classic Warren horror titles Creepy and Eerie and their upcoming adventures in film and TV. Super-secret secrets will be revealed! Moderating the panel is Gemstone’s J. C. Vaughn (Overstreet Price Guide) and consulting editor and writer Dan Braun (Creepy), who will be joined by Dark Horse founder and publisher Mike Richardson and New Comic Company’s Josh Braun. Throw in a couple of surprise Creepy artists and writers, and it will be a tasty stew. They might be giving away awesome Creepy swag, but only to the demonically deserving. Room 25ABC

8:30pm – 9:30pm The Character of Music: Classic Horror Special Edition – For their 5th consecutive collaboration, co-moderators Anne Cecere of BMI and Chandler Poling of Krakower Poling PR are bringing their beloved panel to the spookier side of Comic-Con. Set after dark and focusing on the thrill of the chill, composers Charles Bernstein (Nightmare on Elm Street), Harry Manfredini (Friday the 13th), Laura Karpman (Carrie),Richard Band (Re-Animator), Tyler Bates (Dawn of the Dead) and Maurizio Guarini of Goblin (Suspiria) will reflect on the power of music in horror films. Douglas Tait (Jason in Freddy vs. Jason) will introduce the panel. A Q&A with the audience will follow. Room 8
