Square Enix unveiled in a brief teaser trailer today that the highly anticipated sequel, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, will be available in six months for Xbox One, Xbox One X, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC/Steam. The game is expected to launch on all platforms simultaneously on September 14, 2018.
This is about as much of a tease as you can be without just debuting a poster or first look images. While the trailer doesn’t provide any plot details or any new in-game mechanics, boy howdy does the cinematics look gorgeous. It’s hard to believe that we’re only three years removed from the Rise of the Tomb Raider. Just from the quick glimpses of scenes we are given, the level of detail is incredibly awe-inspiring.
From what it appears, Lara Croft is going to be more ferocious than ever before and looking to take down enemies in South America. What kind of adventure will Lara be taking on this time? It looks like it will be just as epic in scale if not even more so. With how often the end of the world is linked to Mayan prophecies, one could only predict that our raider of tombs will be caught up in some apocalyptic shenanigans.
The 2013 Tomb Raider is a remarkable feat in rebooting a tired franchise. Every aspect of the game is well thought out and provides hours of joy. It’s sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider cranks up the scope and scale to 11 by fine-tuning the original’s gameplay, however the story became a little sidelined with all momentous side quests you could go on. I’m hoping Shadow of the Tomb Raider will help keep a nice balance of story gameplay and optional missions and side quests.
More details surrounding Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be unveiled to the world on April 27, 2018. Fans around the world can visit www.TombRaider.com for a chance to play the game and meet the developers at one of three exclusive reveal events.
