Last week, a seven minute short film spread like wild fire across the Interwebs and had geeks salivating by the buckets full. Mortal Kombat: Rebirth has now had close to four million views and rising. This short film puzzled viewers as to the origin and what this was promoting if it was promoting anything at all. With E3 on it’s way many thought it was to promote a new video game, others believed it was a promo for a new movie coming out, and some just thought it was made for fun. Continue after the jump to read what the real deal to this short film was!

T-He: Kia Soul Hamsters, “This or That”
When I first saw this fluffy little guys in the first Kia Soul advertisement, I thought it was pretty genius and creatively intuitive; “A New Way to Roll.” The marketing was simplistic and brought you in with humor while staying true to what you are selling instead of relying on just a gag. The new Kia Soul hamster commercial is just priceless. Not only are the Hamsters portrayed with more human attributes, but they are rapping and pure gangster. Now I’m not too sure if the persona of the hamsters being rappers were the right move, unless that was the demographic they were looking for. I would think they just came upon the song and went from there. Either way it’s a hilariously creative commercial with still the same charm, but just more in your face. When Worlds Collide: Futurama Meets The X-Men

GottaBeCarl, on DeviantArt, created a unique take on clashing two big properties, X-Men and Futurama, into a great artistic display of nerdgasm.
He notes, “A friend of mine suggested one day that it would be cool to see the characters of Futurama as X-Men and so I drew him Fry as Cyclops. For some reason I couldn’t just stop there…and what came of it was a pretty extensive illustration with some of the most obscure characters from both the X-Men and Futurama universes.”

Neato: Freddie Wong’s “Light Warfare”
Internet phenom, Freddie Wong, is at it again with this short film entitled, “Light Warfare.” With creative use of special effects and visual style, Wong has created something not only fun, but visually illuminating. As Wong puts it, ”
Enough with the rainbows and flowers – it’s time for guns and missiles! This is the true power of light painting: every weapon at your fingertips.” Check out Freddie Wong’s web page FreddieW.com and check out the video after the jump!
Pure Action, Pure Explosions, Pure Adventure
Director/Editor, Jacob Bricca, of this short montage, Pure, has folks talking. Bricca calls it “a meditation on genre, a commentary on visual cliches, and a celebration of the visceral pleasures of cinema.” This montage is pieced together very creatively almost as a film narrative itself. The scenes come together as some of the more visual clichés in action as a man drawing his gun, explosions, and stair chases. The music is by The Jesus Lizard and flows very well and has great scenes from some of the most classic action movies. Groovin’ With Ken and His Viral Toy Story 3 Marketing
With more and more admiration towards animated films, I am definitely digging this viral marketing campaigns for Pixar’s Toy Story 3. An interview of Ken the doll (voiced by Michael Keaton) and his dating tips, show a sort of adult side humor to these toys. They are pretty fun and if you had doubts about the direction of these new characters, specifically Ken, then I suggest you check these videos out. Pixar storytelling seems like they are going towards more adult themes like Up or Wall-E, while still maintaining their childlike wonderment. The highly anticipated Toy Story 3 will be released in theaters this Friday, June 18 in 3D, 2D, and IMAX 3D. Check out Ken as he gives you tips on getting the girl and more insight into his life as a Ken doll after the jump!
Harry Potter Cast Visits The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Being the not so Harry Potter fan that I was and now a true believer in the franchise, seeing a few bits of the cast of the Harry Potter films visiting the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter Theme Park was fun and fascinating. Robbie Coltrane, Emma Watson, Matthew Lewis, and James and Oliver Phelps got a sneak peek weeks before the grand opening of the new theme park at Universal’s Orlando Resort. Seeing all the little details they put into the park and how the Potter cast reacted was guarantee’s this park will be a success. If you ever wondered what it would like to engulf yourself past the books and the film this will be the perfect opportunity to get the fill Harry Potter treatment. I need to start saving my pennies.
