The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards will premier live tonight on NBC from 8:00-11:00 p.m. (EST) from the Beverly Hilton Hotel hosted again by Ricky Gervais. If you are unfortunate for some reason to not have TV, I’ll update you on the events and the winners and give you my opinion if that is anything of value. Catch the live updates when the Globes go live later after the break!
Ricky Gervais opening with his beer on the podium immediately. Which is pretty awesome and goes into a Charlie Sheen roast. Very nice.
The awards announcements begin:
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Christian Bale, The Fighter (WINNER)
Michael Douglas, Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps
Andrew Garfield, The Social Network
Jeremy Renner, The Town
Geoffrey Rush, The King’s Speech
Rightly deserved. Bale put a lot into that role and was brilliantly well acted. I have no doubts he will win the Oscar as well.

I’d say this is deserving. I’ve only heard good things about this show. Good for him.
BEST TELEVISION SERIES, DRAMA
Boardwalk Empire (WINNER)
Dexter
The Good Wife
Mad Men
The Walking Dead
Season 4 of Mad Men was kind of iffy to me and the finale was sub par compared to its predecessors. I think it’s time to start watching Boardwalk Empire possibly.
BEST ORIGINAL SONG
“Bound To You” (Burlesque)
“Coming Home” (Country Strong)
“I See The Light” (Tangled)
“There’s a Place For Us” (The Chronicles of Narnia)
“You Haven’t Seen The Last of Me” (Burlesque) (WINNER)
BEST ORIGINAL SCORE
Alexandre Desplat, The King’s Speech
Danny Elfman, Alice in Wonderland
A.R. Rahman, 127 Hours
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, The Social Network (WINNER)
Hans Zimmer, Inception
Trent Reznor and Ross both greatly deserve this for a uniquely imaginitive score that really sets a great tone and enables a strong presence in the film.
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
Despicable Me
How to Train Your Dragon
The Illusionist
Tangled
Toy Story 3 (WINNER)
An obvious winner, although Tangled and HTTYD were also very great, but they can’t top the juggernaut that is Pixar. Lee Unkrich’s joke about Bieber and Hailee’s ages asking if they were born when the first Toy Story came out was hilarious.
BEST ACTRESS: COMEDY OR MUSICAL
Anette Bening, The Kids Are All Right (WINNER)
Anne Hathaway, Love and Other Drugs
Angelina Jolie, The Tourist
Julianne Moore, The Kids Are All Right
Emma Stone, Easy A
Loved this movie, and loved Annette Benning. She deserves a lot of credit for this movie and I’m glad she got recognized here.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A SERIES, MINISERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
Hope Davis, Special Relationship
Jane Lynch, Glee (WINNER)

I think they need to do a spin-off movie or TV show based on Jane Lynch’s character from Role Models.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Amy Adams, The Fighter
Helena Bonham Carter, The King’s Speech
Mila Kunis, Black Swan
Melissa Leo, The Fighter (WINNER)
Jackie Weaver, Animal Kingdom
Whenever Leo was on the screen you couldn’t take your attention off of her because you never knew what her character would do next. The others in this category are rightfully nominated, but Leo was the clear winner.
BEST DIRECTOR
Darren Aronosfsky, Black Swan
David Fincher, The Social Network (WINNER)
Tom Hooper, The King’s Speech
Christopher Nolan, Inception
David O. Russell, The Fighter
As expected and continuing to sweep the awards, The Social Network is a force not to be reckoned with. Fincher is a filmmaking visionary and hopefully will finally win his first Oscar.

I’ve never heard of this movie, but Giamatti is always a great choice to watch. I’ll put it on my list to do.
BEST ACTRESS: DRAMA
Halle Berry, Frankie and Alice
Nicole Kidman, Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence, Winter’s Bone
Natalie Portman, Black Swan (WINNER)
Michelle Williams, Blue Valentine
She put everything into this role. Her emotion could be felt at all times and completely dominated the screen. Portman’s role was spectacular and I look forward to her Oscar win.
BEST PICTURE: COMEDY OR MUSICAL
Alice in Wonderland
Burlesque
The Kids Are All Right (WINNER)
Red
The Tourist
Absolutely deserving out of all of these nominees. This movie was a special little something that was a hidden gem this year. If you haven’t seen it, GO DO IT NOW!
BEST ACTOR: DRAMA
Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network
Colin Firth, The King’s Speech (WINNER)
James Franco, 127 Hours
Ryan Gosling, Blue Valentine
Mark Wahlberg, The Fighter
Looks like Jesse is getting snubbed this year, but then again I have not seen The King’s Speech, which looked good, so I’ll have to check it out. We’ll see how the Oscars go, but so far, it seems pretty accurate as to how this year will end up.
BEST PICTURE: DRAMA
Black Swan
The Fighter
Inception
The King’s Speech
The Social Network (WINNER)
Not a big surprise here. The Social Network was genius filmmaking. Props to all of the nominees, but TSN was incredible in every aspect. The dialogue from Sorkin, the cinematography, acting, and even the VFX were fantastic.
