And here…we…go. Let the mysteries, planted cell phones, cakes, rallies, and bat signals ring through the streets as the viral marketing for The Dark Knight Rises begins! Two mysterious documents have been sent to two different news aggregates to release to the public. Both documents are linked somehow and are just asking to get deciphered! How is Dr. Leonid Pavel linked to TDKR, well we’ll just have to be patient and wait for more information as it comes in – unless some smarty pants comes along and figures it out.

One of THE most famous viral marketing campaigns of the new era has to lay claim to 42 Entertainment‘s campaign for Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight. It was an amazing viral marketing campaign that swept the nation leaving clues upon clues leading up to the opening moments of the bank robbery in the TDK that would introduce audiences to Heath Ledger’s Joker.

It was a brilliant bit of marketing and there really hasn’t been anything like it since. There were so many puzzles, websites, and mysterious clues that would engage fanboy/girls alike to partake in the adventure of the Joker. There was also an amazing campaign to get Harvey Dent voted on to be the next district attorney of Gotham. It was all so simple, yet so amazing due to the fact that everyone wanted to participate.

All in good fun, viral marketing for The Dark Knight Rises has begun with two mysterious government documents that link to a mysterious Dr. Leonid Pavel. How does Pavel tie-in to the story of TDKR? I would assume that he may be an escapee of the League of Shadows from Ra’s al Ghul’s clutches or perhaps he is the creator of the venom that sustains Bane’s power?

Time will only tell until we can get more pieces of the puzzle. Who knows, this may not even be for The Dark Knight Rises. Nothing is completely confirmed, but Super Hero Hype is placing their bets all-in that this is directly related to TDKR. If so, I can’t wait to see what they come up with and I really hope that it’s 42 Entertainment again.
