We’re really on a roll now. First the viral marketing for The Dark Knight Rises begins and now a new teaser poster of the most epic proportions has appeared on the Interwebs this weekend – and boy howdy does this poster look fan-freaking-tastic. If this is what a teaser poster looks like I can’t wait to see what a normal poster will behold.
Most recently we explored the possibilities of the beginning of a viral marketing campaign that indeed turned out to be for The Dark Knight Rises. What led up to the final moments of “Operation Early Bird” turned out to be early screenings of just the prologue for TDKR.
All things considered, the viral marketing campaign has been a slow build, but I feel as though this new poster wasn’t earned – this wasn’t even viral marketing that led up to this poster.
I love the tagline for the poster, “The Legend Ends.” It’s simple, much like the Harry Potter character posters that said, “It All Ends.” The funny thing is is that they are both distributed by Warner Bros. This ending has multiple interpretations. It could refer to Nolan’s Batman trilogy just coming to an end and/or it could mean the end of Batman as we know it – as many fanboy/girls know Batman’s back is broken by Bane in the comics (it may not even happen in the movie). We’ll just have to wait to find out.

Hopefully there will be more viral marketing fun to be had so that other promotions can be discovered rather than given to us. The first teaser poster for The Dark Knight Rises was pretty great, but this new dark and brooding poster gives a lot more bang for its hypothetical buck.
The Dark Knight Rises is set to release on July 20, 2012 starring Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Juno Temple, Morgan Freeman, Marion Cotillard and more!
Thanks to Firstshowing.net for the poster!
