For the masses who were not able to get into Hall H, and for the millions who weren’t able to attend Comic-Con, you’re in luck. Marvel Studios has just released this awesome recap of Phase 1 and 2 of their cinematic universe, which was shown during their panel. Not only does this retrospective cover up to where we are now, but it gives our first glimpse of Josh Brolin as Thanos, the big bad of Phase 3.
It’s like watching a high school graduation montage that the AV club put together, but more epic. It’s almost unfathomable that it has only been six year since Iron Man toppled all expectations, and two year since The Avengers assembled. And now we have a talking raccoon and a sentient tree gallivanting across the galaxy to save us from evil. Who knew it would turn out this way?
I think this retrospective is great, but I also believe that dropping it online downgrades the experience for all of those mighty warriors who waited in line over night to get into Hall H at Comic-Con and then spend the entire day sitting through panels to see what Marvel would bring to the table. And then to see it come on line nearly a week later, that’s like Willy Wonka telling people there are only five golden tickets for his tour and then a week later opening the floodgates to his chocolate factory for everyone to enjoy. For free nonetheless.
There are so many awesome things that attendees could have seen, and to waste their time in line, sitting all day, and to see a five minute retrospective that would eventually come on line is not worth the value of their time spent or the value of the Comic-Con badge. I’m sure they won’t show the Ultron footage, unless someone leaks it, but I would be bummed knowing I put in all that effort only for everyone else to have the experience from the comfort of their home.
But I digress. Thanos looks pretty cool. Right?
