Like the war between the districts of Panem and The Capitol, Lionsgate has been tactfully promoting The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 with solid trailers and viral marketing to champion the YA adaptation. The first full-length trailer for Mockingjay – Part 1 arrived today, continuing to build anticipation with great tension and striking visuals. Watch the full trailer after the jump.
Whatever the Lionsgate marketing team is doing to convince me that Mockingjay will be a better adaptation than the book itself is hopefully carried over into the actual film. Coming from someone who enjoyed reading the first two books, I loathed Mockingjay, it was a chore to get through. The book is scattered brained and very unappealing. Thankfully, when you adapt a book into a movie, creative liberties can be taken to enhance and improve the story when translated on the big screen.
Mockingjay is a whole different ball game in the realm of The Hunger Games. The first teaser trailer for Mockingjay is pretty dark. As you can see in this trailer there is no glossy sheen of The Capitol, and Katniss isn’t making wardrobe changes in fancy dresses every other scene. There won’t be any battle arenas here folks or discussions about the morality of kids fighting kids, Mockingjay is a political war movie. This release will truly test the broad success this franchise has become.
