Avengers: Age of Ultron is undoubtedly the most anticipated film of 2015 for many people. And with the first teaser set to release next week during Marvel’s Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D., some folks couldn’t wait that long and had to show it to the world. Although I can’t present the trailer, I can offer you an abundant of screenshots that feature Ultron, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Iron Man’s Hulkbuster armor, and more; as well as a trailer description. Check them out after the break.
[UPDATE: The official trailer has gone live and we have it here along with many hi-res screenshots]
I told myself I wouldn’t watch any trailers for Avengers: Age of Ultron, but I just couldn’t help myself. I told myself I wouldn’t listen to the audio, but again I just couldn’t help myself. When I heard that the trailer leaked and ScreenCrush posted the first screencaps, I knew it would be too hard to resist the temptation. I MEAN LOOK AT ULTRON:
In the teaser, Ultron (James Spader) delivers an eerie monologue about his plans for Earth. As the homicidal robot Ultron, Spader’s calm and collected tone brings chills.
“I’m gonna show you something beautiful. Everyone screaming for mercy. You want to protect the world, but you don’t want it to change. You’re all puppets, tangled in strings. Strings…” – Ultron
With frightened looks and a certain lack of confidence on our heroes faces, the song “I’ve Got No Strings” from Walt Disney’s Pinocchio plays subtly in the background. Utilizing the song here in this context completely undermines the song’s original intent, making it all the more powerful for this story, in my mind.
From many of the hints that have been released, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) has really put the team in a pickle. And it seems like everyone is against him. The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) is fighting with him, and even Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has him at his throat. Which is fair since he is the one responsible for setting loose the robotic monstrosity that seeks to wipe out humanity. Mr. genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist has a lot of damage control on his plate, which could explain the recent rumors of the Civil War storyline for Captain America 3.
“This is the end. The end of the path I started us on.” – Tony Stark
“Nothing lasts forever.” – Black Widow
The teaser trailer doesn’t give much screen time to Ultron, but what they do show sets him up well to become the unstoppable force he is in the comics and animated series. His little Ultron army that is teased in the Comic-Con concept poster is given a little scene too. The fact that he is shown crushing the helmet of an Iron Man armor with his hands and enduring the intensity of molten hot magma is not someone you’d want to take lightly.
“Now I’m free. There are no strings on me.” – Ultron
What we don’t see in the trailer is what was shown at the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier; when we were first introduced to Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). The twins’ powers are put on display here, but those who had imprisoned them were not mentioned nor was Vision, which is perfectly fine with me. This trailer sets the stage nicely, and there will be plenty of time to fill in the gaps later. I’d be happy if this is all Marvel and Disney give us until May.
Now these screenshots are not high-resolution, I know that. The trailer file I grabbed them from is of minimal quality that looks pretty good on a smart phone, but not too great when blown up on a computer. I’ll snag hi-res screenshots when it releases next week. Until then, enjoy your first sneak peek at Avengers: Age of Ultron.
