Last week Universal Pictures revealed the details for the Despicable Me spin-off movie, Minions. And now we have our first teaser trailer that puts everything in perspective. If you’ve loved the Minions in the two Despicable Me films, this teaser is as adorable as you would come to expect. Watch it after the break.
I had my reservations for this film based on the premise and what I’ve seen from Illumination Entertainment before, but I rather enjoy this trailer. It has a cuteness factor that completely overwhelms me. I’m curious as to how the Minion’s inability to serve a master plays into their extinction and whether or not that will be answered in the film. Will they just fade away into nothing if they have no evil master to do thy bidding?
My theory as to why I enjoy this teaser trailer more than the Despicable Me films is because there is no Gru and this entire movie will hopefully focus on the perspective of the Minions. As I’ve stated before, the problem with Despicable Me is the over indulgence of the Minion physical comedy that completely halts the movie for a cheap gag. Here it won’t feel out of place because the Minions are the title characters.

Here’s the official plot synopsis for Minions:
Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters. Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters—from T. Rex to Napoleon—the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression.
But one Minion named Kevin has a plan, and he—alongside teenage rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob—ventures out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow.
The trio embarks upon a thrilling journey that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill, the world’s first-ever female super-villain. They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in mod London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind…from annihilation.
Directed by Kyle Balda and Pierre Coffin, Minions stars Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janney, and Steve Coogan.
Minions hits theaters on July 10, 2015 in 3D and 2D.
